When they first saw the coins and bills, their faces lit up with excitement—they immediately wanted to explore and see how it all works in practice.\r\nOne memorable moment was when students worked together to count different combinations of coins and bills to make the same amount. They were thrilled to discover that there's more than one way to reach the total, sparking lots of conversation, collaboration, and problem-solving. These materials turned abstract math concepts into hands-on experiences, and it's been amazing to watch their confidence and curiosity grow.\r\nNext, we'll continue using the coins and bills to explore addition, subtraction, and other money challenges, helping students build both practical math skills and excitement for learning. The smaller magnetic tiles are so much fun when paired with a metal tray. My students have enjoyed being able to sit more comfortably and flexibly throughout the room. The cushions have been helping us to have a more relaxed open floor seating arrangement, where the room can easily transform depending on what we are doing, specifically when the music room transitions from a general music classroom to an orchestra room after school. The bookshelves have allowed the books I have to be safe from any spills on the floor, and make it easier for the students to take care of them. We use them to store books students read during tuning time or any form of downtime in class. \r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the materials, they were so excited to have cushions to sit on. They were hugging their cushions, and loved that there were enough for each of them to have their own. Students were excited to see real bookshelves, and said it made our music classroom seem like a real classroom. \r\n\r\nThe next steps for my students with these materials has been to use the cushions in a half circle seating arrangement instead of just sitting in rows. They get to enjoy these balls everyday when we are outside at recess and they have been taking such great care of them. They are all labeled so that they do not get misplaced with the older grade materials and they put them in the weatherproof storage container when they are done. We use them almost every day to take a \"closer look\" at the world around us. During our plant and seed investigations, students used the viewers to examine seed coats, tiny roots, leaves, and even bits of soil. They've also used them to study rocks, feathers, and anything else they can get their hands on from our schoolyard explorations. Instead of just looking at pictures in a book, my 1st and 2nd graders are now able to see real details up close and make observations like real scientists.\r\n\r\nOne of my favorite moments was during a lesson on seeds. A student placed a sprouting bean under the viewer, gasped, and yelled out, \"I can see the baby plant!\" Immediately, a small crowd formed around the table, and students took turns making observations and sketching what they saw in their science notebooks. The materials that we have gained have already helped so many students work towards reaching their goals during occupational therapy sessions. \r\n\r\nAlthough my students enjoy all of the new materials, there are a few stand outs. All of my students absolutely love using the sensory bins and enjoy experiencing different textures in the two different bins. The sensory bins allow students to work on their sensory regulation, visual scanning, and fine motor skills. This tool allows them to work on so many skills while also having fun! Another favorite tool provided by the project is the pretend food. My younger students, especially, love to pretend play with the food while also working on their fine motor and visual motor skills (e.g. pulling apart the Velcro pieces or using the pretend silverware to cut them). \r\n\r\nI am so grateful for all of the support this project received.
