With the classroom being a shared space, I am able to provide gentle reminders of respecting the materials. The stickers are great rewards for them. \r\n\r\nThe pens have been useful when marking up their passages during annotations for comprehension. The highlighters have also been useful in the bucket as a means to organize and use for vocabulary and identifying the main idea. We are currently writing extended metaphors using elements of nature. The impact that you made this year for my students was so very appreciated. Winter days can prove to be difficult with students being unable to have outdoor recess due to the cold weather. We spent endless days having recess indoors with little to no activities. Your contributions changed the trajectory of our indoor experience. With the use of the resources you provided the students, they were able to have more engaging and productive play. \r\n The students were so excited to have the new indoor recess equipment. They were able to build on their gross motor skills which are very important for young children. These skills are fundamental for everyday physical activities and play a crucial role in a child's overall development. The materials that were provided such as the hopscotch rug, the balls, the balance pods and the crowd favorite the scooters were very beneficial to ensuring that their needs were being met. They also recognized how even in their own community they are aware of men that have joined the brotherhood. Learning about their accolades and life achievements was inspiring. It is so empowering for them to extend their reading and writing practice into speaking and listening. This is much needed practice for higher grades so that they know how to create projects, save their work, and then present their work to their peers using the scanner and the smartboard.\r\n\r\nMultilingual and Struggling learners are especially empowered by this unit because they get to practice and present their own work in a safe and conducive environment. Your generosity has inspired them to work hard and do their best each day because they know others care about their success. \r\n\r\nThe \"treasures and treats\" are used as incentives for passing lessons on the online learning platform we use, i-Ready Reading. i-Ready Reading is an online program that helps students of all ages become thoughtful, analytical readers. Grounded in best practice, it engages students as they build new skills and learn to access rigorous, culturally responsive texts. Class time is allocated for students to work on the individual lessons on their laptops. The headphones supplied by your generous giving allow each student to have their own pair to use each day. When students pass at least 10 lessons in a week, they choose a treat from the treasure box and are celebrated by their classmates. As of the date of this letter, a few students have chosen treats multiple times with two students already passing 70 lessons! There is a healthy competition occurring between the two classes of 4th graders and cumulatively, one class has passed 302 lessons to date and the other has passed 376! \r\n\r\nMy students love to sit on the floor while using their laptops or while reading a book and the floor cushions allow them to be even more comfortable as they work.
