I hope to inspire a love of reading in students by providing a classroom library that reflects them, their experiences, and the many communities they come from. The majority of my students are below grade level readers and I want to provide a variety of books from young adult novels, to fantasy, to graphic novels so they feel reading is accessible. I introduced Farside Gallery, Calvin and Hobbes, and Kwame Alexander books and they were all huge hits! I want to keep the momentum building with an exciting new reveal of over two dozen new books. I also need some mundane, but incredibly important, classroom supplies. We use stamps and stickers for an incentive system. Chart paper for frequent group work and presentations. Play-doh and fidget toys because I have a "vacation desk" in the classroom that students use to take a break (use manipulatives, write their feelings on paper, coloring books) instead of walking the halls. And finally, middle school students are smelly after recess, so a little air freshener goes a long way.
