My project was centered around lifting up teacher knowledge and capacity for centering more lessons in disciplinary areas around complex text. One of the main areas I focused on was vocabulary and morphology, as that is a central and universal scaffolding need in most disciplines in secondary classrooms. \r\n\r\nThe pedagogy and reference books I ordered are the first entries into a teacher library, accessible in the Junior High library office. I will be referencing those materials frequently as I recommend support materials for teachers. The other materials I received were office supplies that support this initiative (highlighter tape, reusable flashcards, whiteboards). Those supplies are also checkout items in the teacher resource library, separated into baggies with suggested scaffold strategies and lesson ideas targeting vocabulary and morphology. Teachers can check out these materials as a starter to trying out some of the strategies outline in the print materials but also connected to our current literacy initiative in the secondary grades.\r\n\r\nI know these materials will cause discussion and promote enthusiasm as our teachers use the resources!","fullyFundedDate":1760633860730,"projectUrl":"project/interacting-with-complex-text/9823004/","projectTitle":"Interacting With Complex Text","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. James","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-5_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrsjela"},{"teacherId":10311515,"projectId":9827314,"letterContent":"Your gracious contribution has made a world of difference for my literacy instruction! My students are now able to use materials aligned to their goals and instructional levels, as well as targeted to the concepts with which they need the most practice. The ability to have the materials I need at the touch of my finger tips has not only made my planning easier, but more effective, as I can trust the materials I have to use for instruction and spend my time and energy engaging in ways to improve the instruction and plan for how to implement. \r\nAs a teacher who covers many different grade-level skills and instructional areas, these materials have helped supplement the general curriculum to meet the students where they are, including providing work with inferencing, decoding, summarizing, and much more. I have seen their skills grow since beginning to use materials sourced from this project, and it is only thanks to your generosity and support! These tools have immediately transformed the daily workflow of our student researchers, providing them with a level of flexibility and comfort that was previously out of reach. In the classroom, the standing chair has become a coveted asset; it allows students to maintain focus and physical energy during long hours of data analysis work, bridging the gap between sedentary desk work and the active nature of hands-on movement.\r\n\r\nThe impact of the iPad, however, has been most visible during our recent research symposiums. Before your gift, students were often tethered to a stationary podium or a heavy laptop, which created a physical barrier between them and their audience. Now, they are utilizing the iPad to lead dynamic, mobile presentations. By untethering from the computer, our researchers are free to move around the room, interact directly with their data visualizations on the screen, and engage in more personal, face-to-face dialogue with peers and faculty. This mobility has not only boosted their confidence but has also elevated the professional quality of their scientific communication.\r\n\r\nOur students are incredibly grateful for these resources, which do more than just provide convenience—they foster a professional environment where innovation can thrive. Being able to present their hard-earned findings with such seamless, modern technology makes them feel truly supported by their community. Thank you for investing in their potential and for providing the literal and figurative support they need to stand tall in their field.\r\n\r\nWith sincere appreciation,\r\n\r\nNewark Charter Junior High School","fullyFundedDate":1760632755124,"projectUrl":"project/on-the-go-research/9828906/","projectTitle":"\"On The Go\" Research","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Hartline","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-7_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7661852"},{"teacherId":2780002,"projectId":9828896,"letterContent":"It is with sincere gratitude that I thank you for your donations towards my Flexible Seating for Flexible Minds Project. My students are enjoying the different seating options and I hope to continue to implement them more into my curriculum this year.\r\n\r\nThis project has been a huge influence throughout my classes. Within my classroom I have noticed my students who usually do not take initiative, are! Along with this improvement, I have seen my students personalities shine. This is a huge accomplishment for my students who may not feel as though they fit in socially.\r\n\r\nAgain, I cannot thank you enough for your extreme generosity. Digital tools allow our students to experiment fearlessly; they can explore color theories, layer intricate textures, and undo mistakes with a single click, which builds a unique kind of creative confidence. This technology doesn't replace traditional medium like paint or clay, but rather acts as a powerful bridge, helping students visualize their compositions and iterate on their ideas much faster than was ever possible before.\r\n\r\nThe most exciting aspect of this new product for the students is the sheer range of capabilities it puts at their fingertips. They are particularly captivated by the tactile responsiveness of the new stylus pens and the vibrant displays that make their digital \"canvases\" feel alive. There is a buzz in the room when they discover they can simulate everything from the transparency of watercolors to the thick impasto of oil paints, all within the same interface. It has turned our classroom into a high-tech studio where the only limit is their own imagination.\r\n\r\nWe have seen a particularly wonderful response from students who previously struggled with the fine motor skills required for traditional drawing or those who felt intimidated by the \"permanence\" of physical paper. One student in particular, who often felt frustrated by manual sketching, has completely blossomed using this new technology; the ability to zoom in for detail has allowed their true artistic vision to finally emerge. By lowering the barrier to entry, this technology has ensured that every student, regardless of their starting skill level, feels like a capable and empowered artist.","fullyFundedDate":1760979805528,"projectUrl":"project/developing-digital-creativity/9842444/","projectTitle":"Developing Digital Creativity","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Hood","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10317197"},{"teacherId":7655848,"projectId":9829823,"letterContent":"Thank you for contributing to my classroom. The students love using the flexible seating. Flexible seating options have been helpful during collaborative activities. The students are comfortable and are engaging in great math-related conversations. The graph whiteboards have been a huge hit! We most recently used them to graph exponential functions. Students then posted their graphs and performed a gallery walk where they discussed the different scales used for the graphs. \r\nOverall, the students were very happy to receive the materials. We hope to use the graphing whiteboards at least once a unit to promote collaboration and discussion.","fullyFundedDate":1760727440418,"projectUrl":"project/empowering-math-learners-with-literacy-a/9829823/","projectTitle":"Empowering Math Learners With Literacy and Collaboration Tools","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Vigliotta","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-5_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7655848"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_131985","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":null,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":41,"percentAsian":7,"percentBlack":37,"percentWhite":33,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":16,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Not specified","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR District Weighted Average","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"UNCLASSIFIED","ncesMetroType":null},"inStateSupporters":33.3,"schoolId":131985,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Newark Charter Junior High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Newark Charter Junior High School ","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/delaware/delaware-department-of-education/newark-charter-junior-high-school/131985"}
