My students don't always understand why they are coming to a new space to work with me and they can feel nervous. Now when they walk in the room they instantly sit down on the rug, lean on a giant pillow and either begin playing with the toys or reading a book. It is amazing to see the transformation this space has created. Since the students feel calmer it is easier to complete tasks with them and they are more eager to return to the room again another day.","fullyFundedDate":1760709572256,"projectUrl":"project/reading-in-a-calm-space/9830751/","projectTitle":"Reading in a Calm Space","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Lefever","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10312862"},{"teacherId":9581600,"projectId":9659347,"letterContent":"We are using the new books, bookshelves, and book bins to create a **reading cozy corner for Rider Reading**, which has completely transformed our literacy block. Students now independently choose \"just right\" books, organize them by topic and level, and settle into the cozy space for focused reading time.\r\n\r\nOne of my favorite moments was watching a student who typically struggles with stamina sit quietly and read an entire book from start to finish. The inviting setup and easy access to books made reading feel less like an assignment and more like a special experience. Students are also using the space for partner reading, retelling stories, and discussing characters, which has increased both engagement and comprehension.\r\n\r\nTheir reaction was pure excitement. As soon as they saw the new bookshelves and book bins, they immediately wanted to explore and sort the books. Several students said things like, *\"This looks like a real library!\"* and *\"Can we read here every day?\"*\r\n\r\nThe cozy corner instantly became a place they were proud of and eager to use. Even students who are usually hesitant about reading were drawn in by the welcoming environment. The new resources made reading feel special, calm, and fun, which set a positive tone for learning right away.\r\n\r\nThe next steps for my students include using the reading cozy corner to strengthen **reading stamina, comprehension, and independence**. Students will continue setting personal reading goals, responding to books through discussions and simple written reflections, and practicing retelling and identifying key story elements.\r\n\r\nWe will also use the book bins to rotate themed texts that connect to our current lessons, allowing students to make real-world and cross-curricular connections. Most importantly, these resources will continue to support a love of reading and provide a safe, comfortable space where students feel confident and motivated to grow as readers.","fullyFundedDate":1762266299034,"projectUrl":"project/reading-corner-bookshelf-for-special-edu/9659347/","projectTitle":"Reading Corner Bookshelf for Special Education Classroom.","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Gurtsak","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9581600_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1753549367262","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9581600"},{"teacherId":10310730,"projectId":9828615,"letterContent":"Thank you for your generosity and continued support of our special education classroom. Many chose to spend that time in the reading corner—some playing games together with their peers, others sitting side by side reading quietly, and a few listening as classmates read aloud.
