Because of your contributions, my first grade students were able to engage with a variety of new reading materials and interactive games that have truly transformed our learning environment.\r\n\r\nThe resources you provided have made a meaningful difference in how my students approach reading. With access to engaging books at their individual reading levels, students have shown increased confidence and enthusiasm during both independent reading and guided small group instruction. Many of my students who were once hesitant readers are now eager to participate, take risks, and share their thinking.\r\n\r\nThe games and hands-on activities have also been a powerful addition to our classroom. They have allowed students to practice foundational literacy skills—such as phonics, sight words, and comprehension—in a fun and collaborative way. These tools have been especially impactful during small group time, where I can better target individual needs while keeping students actively engaged.\r\n\r\nBeyond academic growth, I have seen a noticeable boost in student motivation and classroom community. Students are excited to learn, support one another, and celebrate their progress. Here is our story.\r\n\r\nI teach 2nd grade. I want to help my students learn to love reading as a hobby, something to do for pleasure in their lives outside of school. Not for homework, not to put on a reading log, not to read a passage and answer questions about, not to look at pictures in a graphic novel, not to read e-books, but to read traditional books with traditional print. My grant let me purchase \"book buddy\" reading bags.\r\n\r\nOn Monday, inside each bag I placed a small stuffed animal, the reading buddy and a narrative story at each child's level. This ranged from an easy reader to a lenghty chapter book. I asked students to read each night for 10 minutes with their buddy. I recorded a video of myself on our Class Dojo class story showing the buddy bags to families and asking them to take a picture or video of their child reading and then send it to me so we could share it in class. The response was INCREDIBLE! Over 80% of our class did the reading every night. 50% of families were sending me pictures and videos of their child reading. Sharing the pictures in class became a favorite part of our day. Students were so excited about the reading. It was encouraged, not required. I also posted pictures of me reading each night with my stuffed animal reading buddy. I will continue this all year! I am going to get the release form sent home so I can see if families will allow me to share photos with you.\r\n\r\nTHANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR GENEROSITY IN FOSTERING A LOVE OF READING FOR MY 2ND GRADE STUDENTS.
