While many of the students had seen these methods before, they were now able to connect what they were learning in the science classroom to real-world experiences. During the demonstration, students created labeled models and described each type of heat transfer.\r\n\r\nThe impact was clear. In the assignments that followed, students were able to visualize and refer back to these experiences. They explained how the air popper transferred heat through convection currents of air. The Jiffy Pop popcorn was a big hit, and students were able to easily identify it and other examples as conduction. Finally, radiation, while many students had used a microwave before to pop popcorn, understanding heat transfer through electromagnetic waves became much more meaningful.\r\n\r\nOf course, at the end of the demonstration, students enjoyed sampling the popcorn! As a follow-up, they completed a series of questions applying what they had learned about conduction, convection, and radiation. This was a successful use of the donated materials, and I look forward to continuing to use them with future classes as I teach heat transfer..","fullyFundedDate":1756064296016,"projectUrl":"project/poppin-into-science-exploring-heat-tra/9572987/","projectTitle":"Poppin’ Into Science: Exploring Heat Transfer with Popcorn","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Stow","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9459734_orig.jpg?crop=2040,2040,x420,y1080&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1707167866540","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9459734"},{"teacherId":384033,"projectId":9585539,"letterContent":"Thank you so very much for your donations to my classroom!
