Our fifth graders learn about life cycles; food chains; food webs; and producers, consumers and decomposers. Students read books about owls and learned about their diet and survival. They also learned about food chains related to owls, including a variety of animals they consume as prey.\r\n The students in my class were then introduced to what owl pellets were, how they are found, and what scientific knowledge they can gain from observing them. Small groups of students were able to explore the owl pellets and then relate the bones and matter they found to animals related to their food chains and food webs. \r\n Thank you for giving my students this hands-on experience! It really gave their learning meaning! We are very lucky to have individuals who care about our class and support our excitement towards reading.\r\n Several of our book bins were getting a little low, and we didn't have as many options as we once had. Although we have quite a few different series of books, many of the sets have missing books. We were excited to receive some of the books that would complete our sets. Many students were also excited to receive some graphic novels. These books are a great bridge from picture books to chapter books, and we are excited to own some!\r\n Thank you again for your support and kindness.","fullyFundedDate":1746368422107,"projectUrl":"project/a-series-of-great-books/9243349/","projectTitle":"A Series of Great Books","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Caruth","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp2466827_orig.jpg?crop=2316,2316,x0,y447&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1716749891477","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrs-caruth"},{"teacherId":2945071,"projectId":8837693,"letterContent":"With these new texts, students learn how to identify themes, analyze characters, infer meaning, and support their thinking with evidence from the text. We also use the books to explore vocabulary, strengthen comprehension, and spark rich discussions that connect literature to students' lives. Beyond academic skills, these shared reading experiences promote empathy, critical thinking, and a lifelong love of reading.\r\nWe read the books as a grade level so students were able to discuss the book and participate in book activities across the classrooms. We were able to do room transformations and activities to connect the students with the book. My classroom has a full library and the students loved reading about an adventure in a library! The books come alive when your friends and teachers are reading all together.\r\nWe recorded different teachers reading the chapters so all of the students (ELL, Special Education, and nonreaders) could participate in the activities and fun!\r\n Thank you so much for giving my class an incredible experience!","fullyFundedDate":1727990315790,"projectUrl":"project/one-book-one-grade-reading-adventure/8837693/","projectTitle":"One Book, One Grade Reading Adventure!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Long","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp2945071_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1501111248562","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/kristen-long"},{"teacherId":2466827,"projectId":8847014,"letterContent":"When the boxes of books arrived in our classroom, the entire class was filled with excitement.
