My fifth grade students are bright, caring, and interested in the world around them. They love to discover new things and share what they have learned. The school my students attend is within an inner city district. They generally come from low-income families and are both culturally and racially diverse. Some students are English Language Learners. These differences make our classroom interesting and exciting. Although they are excited to learn and share, students in my classroom also struggle with working cooperatively and sharing ideas constructively. These difficulties can be seen in both students who are English Language Learners and those who are inexperienced in expressing their thoughts.
