Prior to having these notebooks, students often hesitated to fully engage in field activities due to unpredictable weather, fear of damaging their materials, or difficulty recording observations when working outside. Now, with notebooks designed to withstand rain, dirt, and other environmental conditions, students can document findings confidently and accurately in any outdoor setting. In the Spring this will made our fieldwork more authentic and rigorous. \r\n\r\nThe insect specimen set has also enriched our curriculum in meaningful ways. Beneficial insects often play a critical but overlooked role in maintaining healthy ecosystems. With the specimen set, students have been able to examine these organisms up close, identify key structures, and better understand the ecological functions insects serve. Seeing real specimens—rather than just pictures—has helped students make concrete connections between classroom concepts and the world around them. They have explored how pollinators contribute to plant reproduction, how natural predators help control pest populations, and how biodiversity supports ecosystem resilience. Many students have expressed newfound appreciation for insects they previously found uninteresting or even bothersome.\r\n\r\nThe generosity of the donors has created learning experiences that will stay with students long after they leave the classroom. We relied heavily on textbooks, digital diagrams, and small, fragile desk models. While helpful, these resources simply cannot convey the scale, articulation, and intricate detail of the human skeletal system. Students often struggled to mentally transpose a flat diagram into the reality of a 6-foot-tall human body, leading to frustration and superficial memorization.\r\n\r\nThis new, life-size skeleton model instantly transforms that challenge into an opportunity.
