Your generousity has already touched over 50 students here at Laurel. Classroom read alouds, small groups, and one on one connection making are just a few ways that we have used these books with students. Our school is being transformed by the new books you helped provide! With this collection, students are not only exploring exciting stories and diverse voices, but they are also practicing critical skills like making inferences, comparing perspectives, and connecting stories to their own lives. Titles like The Wild Robot and the graphic novel set are sparking deep conversations about resilience, problem-solving, and identity, while picture books such as Cape and Good Things are helping even our youngest readers explore big emotions like grief, love, and anxiety in ways that feel safe and relatable.\r\n\r\nReading in classrooms creates connections. Students gather eagerly to see which book we'll share, and small groups are diving into the graphic novels, taking turns reading panels aloud and laughing together. Others are drawn to the SEL titles, which have become a springboard for morning meetings and calm-down corner reflections. One student, who often struggles with expressing feelings, has been especially engaged with The Noise Inside Boys and has begun using the language from the book to explain his emotions more clearly. Another student who is new to our Laurel community, loved A Kids Book About Immigration—she proudly said, \"This one is about me!\"\r\n\r\nThank you for making these moments possible. Your generosity has filled our shelves with books that affirm students' identities, build empathy, and bring joy. Each story opens a new door for conversation, connection, and learning. These books are more than just pages—they are tools that help our students (and staff) grow both as readers and as caring, confident individuals.","fullyFundedDate":1753984810067,"projectUrl":"project/book-by-book-building-empathy-persever/9240622/","projectTitle":"Book by Book, Building Empathy, Perseverance, and Confidence","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. B.","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp5260794_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1522270390295","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/5260794"},{"teacherId":7229268,"projectId":9501693,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for supporting my students and I! The best thing about our Boogie boards is we never have to worry about markers dying, finding erasers, or having clean boards. The constant worry about making sure I have enough usable markers for students is over! We are also able to practice what we read about - easy ways to protect our environment. By no longer using dry erase boards, we no longer have the waste that comes with the constant cycle of throwing away dried out markers, messed up erasers, or boards that are too cloudy to use.
