I am a teacher at a Title I school in Seattle. My future first graders had the difficult experience of not being able to complete their kindergarten year. Knowing how challenging distance learning was for so many families and students last year has inspired me to create this project. I want to ensure that my class has an enjoyable and successful time while working to continue their learning at a distance. The support we need for this project will be providing a class full of excited first graders with their first-ever set of math materials that they can call their own. I aspire to have each one of my students engaged virtually while raising up their individual whiteboards to proudly display answers. I want each student to be able to have the same access to the high-quality math manipulatives we have in school to help with their understanding of number concepts. First grade is such an influential year for each student's learning, with this project, my class will be one step closer to feeling confident and being successful.
