Students have loved learning about important historical events like the Underground Railroad, 9/11, and Pearl Harbor through the perspective of a fictional character who lived at that time in history. The books are engaging, a little bit shorter, and the perfect level for most kids in my class to read successfully. Students are recommending this series to others, which is so fun to see! Both boys and girls are choosing this series during their independent reading time.\r\n\r\nWe are just about to begin our first book club unit, which means students will be able to choose texts like And Then, Boom! or Other Words for Home. They can choose to work independently or collaborate with classmates, allowing them to learn in ways that feel natural and engaging to them.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, my students were immediately eager to explore. Their faces lit up when we opened the packages together! They were so excited to look through the new STEM tools and could not wait to get their hands on them. Instead of simply talking about how things work, they now have the opportunity to build, experiment, and discover through hands-on experiences.\r\n\r\nOne of my favorite moments has been watching students work together on STEM challenges. They discuss their ideas, create a design, test it, and then make changes when something doesn't work the way they expected. I love hearing students say things like, \"Let's try it this way!\" and watching them encourage one another. These experiences are helping them understand that mistakes are an important part of learning and that there can be many different ways to solve a problem.\r\n\r\nThe impact goes beyond STEM skills. My students are practicing communication, teamwork, creativity, perseverance, and critical thinking while having fun. With your help, this year I was able to set up multiple parkour obstacle courses throughout the gym, a tumbling station and have the course fully directionally signposted. \r\n\r\nI love watching the joy coming from the students when they walk into the gym and see course set up. They never know where to start or which station is their favourite.
