Because of your support, I received an iPad that has quickly become an essential tool in my PE classroom. I use it daily to collect student data more efficiently, track progress, and ensure that every student is growing and succeeding in their physical education experience.\r\n\r\nThe iPad has also helped me create random student groups quickly and fairly, which has improved classroom management and made activities more inclusive. Additionally, the translation features have been incredibly helpful in communicating with my multilingual students, allowing all learners to feel seen, understood, and supported. He is a newcomer immigrant student from Vietnam that is literate in Vietnamese and is learning English. With the IPad he is able to translate materials, look up key words, learn how to pronounce in English, and how to teach his classmates his first language! These skills are essential for students to master to be able to access learning and knowledge independently. We do biweekly monitoring of different skills, and the iPad allows to do that efficiently.\r\n\r\nWe also now have a sound wall that students can reference to support them in learning spellings for different vowel sounds. These spellings can be particularly tricky in English with all its different word origins. My students are using the new resources in a variety of ways. All of these resources are helping to increase engagement in my math classroom. As a class, we were very excited to have new materials to use. It allows math activities to be more varied and allows students to engage with content in different ways, which has made class much more interesting. \r\n\r\nOne particularly exciting way that students are using the new resources is through math forums. During forums, students explain the process for solving a word problem either on whiteboards or on chart paper around the room. From there, students are responsible for explaining the thinking to the class. Students in the audience are then able to give feedback, compare strategies to their own, or ask questions. Not only has this boosted engagement in the classroom, but it also has helped to build a really positive math community. \r\n\r\nI am excited to be able to continue to build onto this momentum in the classroom. My hope is that students will continue to take ownership over their learning through thinking critically about math concepts and through sharing their thinking with the class. My goal is that by continuing to foster a supportive math community, students will start to see themselves as \"math people\" and feel more confident in tackling different challenges!","fullyFundedDate":1727462872593,"projectUrl":"project/make-thinking-visible-in-math-class/8574353/","projectTitle":"Make Thinking Visible in Math Class","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Collom","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9266777"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_41528","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":602,"numTeachers":43,"percentFrplEligible":64,"percentAsian":4,"percentBlack":3,"percentWhite":10,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":79,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"14.0:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":60.1,"schoolId":41528,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Gust Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Gust Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/colorado/denver-public-school-district-1/gust-elementary-school/41528"}
