This year I want to introduce my third grade students to programming. Students are already skilled at typing, navigating the Internet, and using databases for research. This year I will be introducing a Makerspace in our computer lab. Students will get the chance to use Bloxels to program and build their own video game. Bloxels uses a combination of manipulatives and technology to teach students the basics behind programming. We will be working on building games around the exploring cultures unit that third graders learn in their literacy classrooms. Students will create their game using the Bloxels game board and iPad App. By engaging students in the background of how technology works, I know they will become empowered thinkers, innovative designers, and digital citizens by learning the behind the scenes of video game programming, coding and creation.
