Because I was unexpectedly away from school for several months due to illness, my students had to wait much longer than we originally planned to begin our geology adventure. We finally explored the materials in the spring of 2026, and the wait was absolutely worth it. For my 3- and 4-year-olds, opening the boxes and discovering all of the rocks, fossils, gems, and tools truly felt like a special treat.\r\n\r\nThe students surprised us with how patient and focused they were as they carefully dug for gems and fossils, examined their discoveries, and tried to identify what they had found. Their excitement quickly turned into a whole new curiosity about rocks and minerals. They learned surprisingly complex vocabulary and proudly memorized the names of their favorite gems. One of the most exciting moments was breaking open geodes with the help of older students from our school. There were so many wide eyes and excited voices when they discovered what was hiding inside!\r\n\r\nOur exploration also grew far beyond the original lesson. Fossils led to questions about dinosaurs, which turned into conversations about herbivores, carnivores, and what we can learn about animals that lived long ago. We were even able to connect our classroom learning to a visit to the Denver Museum of Nature & Science, where students continued their dinosaur investigation and explored the gems and minerals exhibit. Your generosity did much more than provide materials for one science lesson. It sparked questions, new vocabulary, new interests, and the kind of curiosity that keeps young children wanting to learn more. Thank you for giving my students an experience they will continue talking about and building upon.","fullyFundedDate":1730995970649,"projectUrl":"project/igniting-curiosity-a-hands-on-geology-a/8772974/","projectTitle":"Igniting Curiosity: A Hands-On Geology Adventure for Bilingual Preschoolers","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Quintanilla","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9238326_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1693537974506","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9238326"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_41499","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":450,"numTeachers":25,"percentFrplEligible":84,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":10,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":85,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":3,"gradesServed":"Pre-K - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"18.0:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":64.3,"schoolId":41499,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Bryant - Webster Dual Language School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Bryant - Webster Dual Language School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/colorado/denver-public-school-district-1/bryant-webster-dual-language-school/41499"}
