We studied Bisa Butler and Andy Warhol among others to use color in a creative way. Students enjoyed working on acetate to paint their portraits. Students used SEL learning tools to get in touch with the colors they wanted to use that best represented themselves.\r\n\r\nThe portraits show a level of color exploration that I am very impressed with and which could not have been achieved without your support of this engaging project. Thank you so much for supporting my mission with this project. Positive self identity is important to cultivate. We have a class set that the fourth graders use while they are in the music room. I wash and reuse them each week. This year, a large box of beautiful translucent green soprano recorders was delivered to our classroom! The excitement in the room was tangible when I opened the box. The students were excited to see the recorders and couldn't wait to play them. When I told the students that the recorders were for them and that they got to keep them, they were overjoyed. One boy in the class kept asking me, \"I get to take it home?\" Even after I repeatedly told him that the instrument was for him to take home and keep, he couldn't believe it was for him. Now that we've been using them for a few months, he still asks me at the end of the class if he can take it home to practice. I always exclaim, \"Yes! The recorder is yours. You get to keep it!\" \r\n\r\nThe students have been learning songs to play on the recorders for a few months. Several fourth graders played them in our concert at the end of February. They worked hard to learn the songs, practiced independently at home, and performed for their families at the concert. We will continue to use the recorders for the rest of this year and play them next year when the students are in fifth grade. \r\n\r\nThe gift of recorders from Donors Choose has been a blessing to our fourth graders. Thank you for your donation and the impact you are making on these young musicians who have their own instruments to take home and keep.","fullyFundedDate":1723139507159,"projectUrl":"project/fourth-grade-recorder-rockstars-hot-cros/8563069/","projectTitle":"Fourth Grade Recorder Rockstars-Hot Cross Buns and Beyond!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Lemmon-Elrod","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-3_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9629545"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_72288","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":477,"numTeachers":31,"percentFrplEligible":43,"percentAsian":8,"percentBlack":11,"percentWhite":44,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":24,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"15.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":78.9,"schoolId":72288,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Canyon Creek Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Canyon Creek Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/colorado/cherry-creek-school-district-5/canyon-creek-elementary-school/72288"}
