The Universe is an amazing place, full of balls of fire, ice chunks hurtling through the abyss, and mysterious black holes with gravity beyond imagination. In science class we have the chance to work through these mysteries and discover the cosmos together. What better way to do this than through direct observations. Learners can use a telescope to delve into planets, moons, and stars, but there's so much more than that out there. With tracking and stabilization technology, students can find galaxy clusters, twin stars, and comets millions of light years away! I want to give all my learners this opportunity through in-person astronomy nights, virtual presentations on Zoom, and (with solar filters) daytime sun observations. Videos, pictures, and written observations of the cosmos are amazing, but there is nothing that compares with real-time and real-life astronomy. Once you uncover the incredible scope of the universe, no learner will ever be able to look up at the night sky the same way again.
