Because of your generosity, my students now have access to engaging, high-interest texts that are already transforming the way they experience reading in our classroom. These new books are helping us build essential skills such as identifying themes, analyzing character development, and citing strong textual evidence to support our thinking. This helps my 8th graders create meaningful questions and helps them find ways to connect literature to real-world issues as well as to themselves. These are critical skills that not only support their growth as readers, but also as thoughtful, analytical thinkers.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is an active, student-centered experience. This leads to meaningful discussions with their classmates where they practice sharing and defending their thinking. We often pause to reflect, write about our ideas, and engage in meaningful dialogue that builds both confidence and communication skills. The new books have made it easier to foster a genuine love of reading—students are more eager to participate, and they are taking greater ownership of their learning.\r\n\r\nYour donation has allowed us to now have a novel for each student which makes their reading easier, especially for students who need to catch up on their assigned reading and need to check out a novel to bring home for homework. Thank you for giving my classroom the tools it needs to be successful, as well as helping to create a classroom environment where all students feel empowered, capable, and inspired to grow as readers.","fullyFundedDate":1772036541568,"projectUrl":"project/exploring-identity-belonging-and-choic/10090874/","projectTitle":"Exploring Identity, Belonging, and Choice Through the Outsiders","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Becky","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9431227"},{"teacherId":7190685,"projectId":9588740,"letterContent":"My students were beyond excited when they first saw the new materials! They immediately noticed the vibrant colors of the new paint palettes and loved the comfortable grips on the paint brushes. Many of them commented on how the different brush styles allowed them to try new techniques. They truly felt like \"real artists,\" which boosted their confidence and creativity right away.\r\n\r\nWe are currently using the materials to explore color mixing and brush techniques in our art projects. Students are experimenting with texture, layering, and detail work using the variety of brushes. Our next steps include applying these skills to a larger canvas project where they will combine techniques to create a final piece that showcases their learning and creativity.\r\n\r\nThank you for giving our classroom the tools to inspire young artists!","fullyFundedDate":1755705788117,"projectUrl":"project/masterpieces-in-the-making/9588740/","projectTitle":"Masterpieces in the Making","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Miller","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7190685_orig.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1587151129179","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7190685"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_104964","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1305,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":45,"percentAsian":9,"percentBlack":2,"percentWhite":9,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":62,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 8","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR District Record","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":null},"inStateSupporters":79.3,"schoolId":104964,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Hawking Steam Charter School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Hawking Steam Charter School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/sweetwater-union-high-school-district/stephen-w-hawking-charter-school/104964"}
