As they become more organized, their materials are easily accessible and transitions times between content area are quicker. Quicker transitions leads to more teaching, learning, practice, and small group time. \r\n\r\nMy students were so happy when they say the seat organizers arrived and placed on each of their desks. We are thrilled to have them in our classroom and my students are loving listening to them, discussing them, and sharing them with each other. They are a hot commodity in our room.\r\n\r\nAs we are kindergarteners, we are on the very beginning of our reading journey. We are learning our letter names and sounds (as this is the beginning of the school year) and we are listening to lots and lots of stories. My students are learning to look at pictures and thinking about what might we going on in the story. They are noticing illustrations and the emotions of characters they come across. They are doing this with reading to self and partner reading. \r\n\r\nThese books have been part of our Social Emotional Learning journey through interactive read alouds. With The Curious Why we are learning that asking questions is productive. Let's highlight a few of the books. With The Artivist we are learning that our voices matter and that art can be more tan just a drawing. And finally, with Love is Powerful, we are learning that love comes in lots of different ways. \r\n\r\nOur entire class is thrilled with the books and I am happy that they are helping to open up a door to a different way of thinking about the world around us. \r\n\r\nWe are looking forward to more read alouds, more learning, and more joy.","fullyFundedDate":1746542220541,"projectUrl":"project/love-is-powerful-and-other-inspiring-boo/9268240/","projectTitle":"Love is Powerful and Other Inspiring Books","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Kazos","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp788520_orig.jpg?crop=1827,1827,x1518,y1142&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1565754384586","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/788520"},{"teacherId":1141658,"projectId":9232491,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for the beautiful mirror and window books for our classroom. In our room, reading is a vibrant, interactive experience. Students don't just read: they discuss, question, predict, and connect. With these new series books, we focus on key literacy skills such as identifying character traits, tracking how characters change over time, and recognizing patterns across a series. These texts also help students build stamina, expand vocabulary, and develop inference skills as they begin to notice deeper themes and relationships.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom often looks like small group discussions, partner reading, and quiet moments of total immersion. There's a special kind of energy when students are invested in a series. They race to finish a book so they can talk about it with a classmate or dive into the next one in the collection.\r\n\r\nOne student in particular, who was previously reluctant to read independently, has become completely hooked on a new mystery series. The easel has truly become the heart of our learning space. It holds our anchor charts, displays our learning targets, and gives us a clear spot to gather and focus during lessons. I was able to display an enlarged article, model text marking directly on the whiteboard, and then guide students in identifying features using magnetic labels.\r\n\r\nWhen the easel first arrived, the students were thrilled. Several of them clapped and they have loved having a central spot to gather where they can see everything clearly and participate more easily.\r\n\r\nOur next steps include using the easel during center rotations. When students read, they are not just practicing decoding or fluency. They are also learning how to think critically, make connections, and see the world through new perspectives. The books funded by this grant are helping us build these skills by offering stories that reflect the cultures and languages of the students in our room.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom often looks like students gathered in small groups, reading independently, or discussing stories with partners. We focus on skills like identifying character traits, understanding theme, and making inferences. We also spend a lot of time talking about how stories make us feel and what they teach us about others.\r\n\r\nOne student, who speaks Spanish at home, was thrilled to find a book in Spanish that reminded her of her family traditions. She smiled and said, \"This book is like my house.\" Another student, who is learning Spanish, eagerly picked up the same book and asked a friend to help her read it. Moments like these are powerful because they show how books can bring students together and deepen their appreciation for language and culture.\r\n\r\nYour support is making a real difference in how our students see themselves and each other through stories.
