These new mystery texts help us introduce and practice key literacy skills such as analyzing character development, identifying themes, making inferences, and drawing connections between texts and real life. \r\n\r\nIn our classroom, reading is both a quiet, focused activity and a lively, collaborative one. You'll often find students huddled with their \"detective sidekick\", debating a character's choices, or jotting thoughtful questions in sticky notes. Working together, my mystery readers try to solve the mystery before the characters do, which requires a lot of reading skills and inferences!\r\n\r\nThank you for being part of our reading journey. Going into teaching a large part of my mindset was creating a classroom in which students would not only feel empowered but also have the agency to learn in the way that they wanted. The use of our new flexible seating options have been able to do exactly that. \r\n\r\nThrough the use of the lap desks students have been giving the opportunity to find new places to work. Whereas before they could only work at their desks when needing a hard surface, they can now explore different places inside and outside the class. Whether it be on the carpet or outside on the field, they are able to complete their work productively. The use of our cushions also allow this freedom.
