The students were so excited to see the new hands-on science kits.\r\n Our unit was on electrical systems and involved some hands-on problem solving, but since kids learn by doing, not just reading, I wanted them to have more chances to tinker with electrical systems. We had a couple of kits, but needed more in order for students to work in small groups. \r\n The kits were a hit! Students were so excited when they were able to solve an engineering problem. We have had a wonderful start to the year thanks to the materials you helped purchase.\r\n\r\nStudents have been using the play doh letters and stamp pads in their literacy centers. They use the play doh letters to write their names and sound out words. They use the letter stamps to stamp syllables and sound out 2-3 syllable words. They are all enjoying literacy and meeting their letter sound goals!\r\n\r\nWe have been using the beads for math counting, addition and subtraction as well as to make friendship bracelets. We finished the 100th page of the book today and the class is enthralled with the story. We have been reading the book daily and working on new vocabulary, plot diagrams, and character development. Students are sharing personal connections to the story and using their learning to produce their own stories and writing. \r\n\r\nIn class, we have some bean bags, pillows and a carpet area that studtns like to sprawl out as they read along with the class.
