Through our class texts, students practice identifying setting, characters, conflict, and theme, as well as making inferences and supporting their ideas with evidence from the text. We also work on vocabulary, summarizing, and making connections between what we read and students' own experiences. Because many of my students benefit from additional reading support, the books give us meaningful opportunities to practice these skills with engaging stories.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is very interactive and supported. I often read aloud while students follow along, and we pause throughout the story to discuss what is happening, highlight important details, annotate in the margins, and make predictions. Students also work with partners or in small groups using graphic organizers, sentence starters, and discussion questions. These supports make reading feel more manageable and allow students at different reading levels to participate successfully.\r\n\r\nOne of the most rewarding things has been seeing students who were initially hesitant about reading become more involved in our discussions. Students are beginning to make connections with characters, share their opinions, and point to specific moments in the text to explain their thinking. Having new and engaging books available has helped create a classroom where reading is not simply an assignment—it is an opportunity for students to discuss, connect, and grow together. Those guitars are really the perfect size for most students.\r\n\r\nThe guitar wall hangers have been tremendously useful. Using them has allowed me to stop using the tripod type guitar stands. This has opened up space in the classroom, and made the classroom look less cluttered and more visually appealing. Better yet, it has completely eliminated the problem of guitars getting knocked off or slipping off of the stands and crashing into the floor--which up until getting these hangers had been a recurring issue.
