The canvases were turned into sunset silhouette paintings for Father's Day, and we have used the Fine Point Black Sharpies for many drawing projects. The Harry Potter novels are favorites in class and are read and reread by many students throughout the school year. The Wings of Fire Graphic Novels are rarely on the shelf because they are in such demand. The magnetic tape gives us flexibility to move our class schedule signs around during the day so that it always reflects what we have planned, and the heavy duty magnetic hooks keep our calendar in place on the front board. We love using the Astrobright paper to add a little extra color to our special project too. Our program, VAPA VISION, consists of 17 highly experienced educators who teach throughout our district. We travel to different schools daily, teaching Visual and Performing Arts, including Music. We teach over 15,000 K-5th graders, creating lessons that follow state standards. \r\n The Boomwhackers have been invaluable in helping us teach pitch and melody to our students. It was fun to watch students discover that the larger a boomwhacker, the lower the pitch. \r\n\r\nAt 2nd and 3rd grade, without explaining how boomwhackers are organized or labeled, we gave each student a boomwhacker and challenged groups to line up in order from lowest to highest pitch. There were 4 ways to solve this challenge: \r\n1. size of each boomwhacker\r\n2. music notes on each boomwhacker\r\n3. solfege notes on each boomwhacker (Do, Re, Mi, etc.)\r\n4. sound\r\nWe also challenged small groups to create and play the melody for some lyrics (\"Playing boomwhackers can be fun, In a classroom or in the sun\").\r\n\r\nAnd at every grade level, students enjoyed playing along to songs, and learning about notes, rhythm, beat, chords, and being part of a band/orchestra in the process.\r\n\r\nTHANK YOU SO MUCH for your generosity!
