We use pencils and writing supplies every single day for brainstorming, taking notes, annotating texts, responding to questions, completing writing assignments, and revising our work. Many of my students come to class without pencils or lose them throughout the day, and having a reliable supply available means that no student has to feel embarrassed or be unable to participate because they do not have something to write with.
