Having a variety of books allows students to have more choice in what they read and gives them the chance to find stories and topics that genuinely interest them. When students first saw all of the new books, they were excited to look through the different titles and talk about which ones they wanted to read.\r\n\r\nDuring our book clubs, students will work together to discuss characters, important events, themes, and their reactions to the text. They will practice supporting their ideas with evidence while also learning how to listen and respond to the ideas of their classmates. I am especially excited to see students build their confidence as readers and realize that reading can be a social experience where their thoughts and opinions matter.\r\n\r\nOur next steps will be to begin forming our book club groups and start reading! As students move through their books, they will participate in discussions, complete reflections, and eventually share what they learned from their books with the rest of the class. After a full day of school, many of my students are tired and hungry, but they are still choosing to stay after school to get extra help and strengthen their skills. It has also helped make our tutoring space feel welcoming and comfortable, so students can focus on learning instead of being distracted by hunger.\r\n\r\nMy students were so excited when they first saw all of the snacks! They immediately wanted to know when tutoring was happening and what snacks would be available. It may seem like something small, but to them, having a snack waiting after a long school day makes staying for extra help feel a little more special. I love being able to recognize their effort and commitment to their learning while also making sure they have what they need to be successful.\r\n\r\nAs we continue through the school year, students will use our after-school tutoring time to get additional support with current classroom assignments, practice skills they may still be developing, and prepare for upcoming lessons and assessments. They like how the water can be hot, cold, and even room temperature. At our school sometimes the water refill stations are not working. I'm happy that my students have this in our class. \r\n\r\n It has also helped to have the extra snacks to be able to give to my students. At times after lunch they are still hungry and need an extra boost to get through the day. Also the candy treats has helped with a reward system I have started with my 6th grade class.
