My kindergartners started using the playground balls to learn how to catch and pass a ball to a partner. Our kindergarteners really enjoyed using the scooter to race each other in teams. Your donation helped our costume team to purchase specialty costumes and props that made this production truly special! Can you imagine Dorothy without Toto or her ruby slippers? Glinda, without her beautiful gown? The Wicked Witch without her signature hat and broomstick? These, plus many other items, were purchased because of your generous donation. \r\n\r\nSomething happens when a student puts on a costume....they feel special! Often, a costume gives a performer the boost of confidence that helps them really shine. That was exactly the impact these costumes had on our students. Students embraced their roles, and we were able to create a magical world with yellow brick roads, talking scarecrows, flying monkeys, and cowardly lions. This production featured 78 student performers in grades 1-5th grade. We used the hands on addition, subtraction and tens frame kits for three of our math center stations. Each week I introduced one center at a time to the whole class and then two students modeled how to add, subtract or count by 10's and 1's. Next students work in groups of four at tables to share the math kits. With our other resources like dry erase sleeves we're used for math counting, shapes, addition, subtraction and counting in groups. We were going through pencils so quickly and I was worried about running out. This project will help supply me for the rest of this school year and hopefully through next school year. The materials in the phonics kit also have dots and letters to sound out short vowel words. Another kindergarten group uses the map it dots to say each letter sound for a short vowel word. This kit also has picture cards to help beginning kindergartners match the initial sounds to the picture.
