With the new sets of popular chapter books, I have been able to introduce my students to the world of longer texts through guided novel studies. Many of my students are just beginning their journey into chapter books, and reading these stories together has helped build their confidence, stamina, and love for reading.\r\n\r\nThrough these books, my students are learning important reading skills such as making predictions, identifying character traits, summarizing chapters, and discussing story elements like setting, problem, and solution. They are also learning how to track a story over multiple days — a big step for first graders used to finishing a book in one sitting!\r\n\r\nDuring our reading group time, students take turns reading aloud, following along, and sharing their thoughts about the characters and events.
