They have allowed my students to create fantastic paintings this past semester. We never would have been able to complete the projects we did without them.\r\n\r\nI was hired this year to be an additional art teacher so unlike when you may start at a new school typically, I did not replace anyone. Therefore I also did not inherit a classroom full of supplies and infrastructure. The room had previously been used for a keyboard/piano class and thankfully they had several flat files in the room where they had stored sheet music. That gave us some storage but not nearly enough and certainly not storage that would provide ample air flow allowing work to dry between classes. These drying racks are absolutely essential and I cannot truly express how grateful I am to you. My students feel the same way and asked me to convey my gratitude to you over the break. (They also wanted me to include photos of them working and their finished work.) One of the racks was different and larger and some of my more advanced students were particularly grateful for the opportunity to create larger work without worrying about it fitting in their small drawers.\r\n\r\nHeading into the spring semester we will be exploring watercolor much more and I can now teach all of the experimental methods I want to because we have ample space and safe storage to let all of the work dry. I do not have to pick and choose what to expose the students to because of your generosity. Some of them can even work on two projects at once if they're strategic!\r\n\r\nWhile the impact on students art making ability is direct and probably very obvious, there are some other real benefits that come from having a resource like the drying racks you have donated. I was able to teach studio etiquette and safe materials handling and storage procedures in a way that made sense and had instant practical examples for the students so they can understand how an artist operates and the responsibility that comes with a shared space. Because of the exposed nature of the drying rack designs they knew they had to be careful with the work of others and use safe handling procedures when storing their own work, something that would be difficult for many of them to wrap their heads around if I wasn't able to directly show them what that means. (Plus it is fun for them to be able to see the drying work of students from other class periods and I could swear the levels of creativity/competition increased when they began to store their work this way and see what other were doing. Very fun for them and me!).\r\n\r\nSome of the other teachers were also very impressed when they saw these new racks as I hosted a teacher led workshop for our final PD meeting of the semester. Those who saw the racks when they first arrived, and teachers in this final week who came to the workshop, brought something to my attention that made me even more grateful for your donation. They told me that the district likely would not have ever even approved a purchase of something like these racks because they would potentially consider them furniture which is not allowed to be purchased using instructional materials funds. I honestly have no idea how else our painting classroom would ever have been able to acquire racks like these. So, thank you. It has made our art room function at a level I didn't know we could achieve. The students feel like they have agency because they know these racks are for them and how to use these and they know that they came to us because of your generosity. Thank you so much.","fullyFundedDate":1758767796328,"projectUrl":"project/drying-racks-for-the-inaugural-painting/9744917/","projectTitle":"Drying Racks for the inaugural painting class!","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Watts","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10273502"},{"teacherId":1272514,"projectId":9551926,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generosity, our Spanish classroom has become a more engaging, collaborative, and welcoming space. The bulletin board paper, chalk markers, and cultural decorations help us showcase student work and celebrate Latin American culture. Flexible seating and games also support community-building and low-stress language practice.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the materials, they were genuinely excited. Many immediately asked when they could start creating projects or using the games. They help soften the harsh fluorescent lighting and create a calm atmosphere, which has noticeably improved focus during classwork. \r\n\r\nAs we move forward, students will continue using these resources to complete assignments and participate in guided activities. Thanks to you, we now have the Cricut machine and materials needed to create interactive, hands-on tools that will transform the way my students understand functions and their transformations.\r\n\r\nIn Algebra 2, much of our year is spent studying different types of functions—how they behave, how they compare, and how they are all connected. Many students struggle to grasp the big idea that every new function is really just a transformation of a parent function. This concept is essential for success not only in Algebra 2, but in all of high school mathematics.\r\n\r\nBecause of your donation, I can now design and laminate movable parent-function pieces that students can physically shift, flip, and slide on laminated graph grids. This interactive approach will help them see and feel what it means to translate, reflect, stretch, and compress a function. Instead of memorizing rules, students will be able to experiment, make discoveries, and build conceptual understanding that lasts.\r\n\r\nThese manipulatives will be reused year after year, benefiting hundreds of students and helping them build confidence in one of the most challenging parts of the Algebra 2 curriculum. During long days, high-stress weeks, and especially during testing season, many of my students come to class tired, hungry, or overwhelmed. Offering a small, warm snack like popcorn has consistently boosted their engagement, morale, and comfort. It creates a welcoming atmosphere where they feel cared for and ready to participate.\r\n\r\nBefore this project, I often struggled with how to serve the popcorn in a clean and sustainable way. We used napkins, but the butter would soak through, leaving sticky desks and wasting supplies. Your donation changed that. The trays and wax-paper liners allow me to serve snacks efficiently and hygienically while keeping our classroom clean. Even more importantly, it allows me to provide this gesture of care without worrying about the ongoing cost coming out of my own pocket.\r\n\r\nThanks to you, my students can focus more, work comfortably, and feel valued. We've already put it to great use; students have been using it for research, video creation, presentations, and specially for creating digital art. Students have already used the iPad to record skits, add graphics, and edit footage for their slides. It has made the creative process far more accessible and has given students the flexibility to work anywhere in the classroom and even outside of the classroom as well. \r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the iPad, their excitement was immediate and full of curiosity. Many of the students were asking why we were getting an iPad; many of my students (9th and 10th graders) had had access to iPads when they were in elementary school. As a result, many were surprised and grateful that strangers had invested their time into helping us get a new iPad! The students were already comfortable with the use of an iPad and immediately began to make suggestions as to what apps we should be downloading to maximize our collective use of the device. They eagerly discussed art project ideas, explored creative apps, and took turns experimenting with the camera and editing tools. There were a few students however that don't have access to this kind of technology at home and so this has now opened new educational opportunities for them. \r\n\r\nAs we move forward, the iPad will continue to play an important role in our upcoming media literacy and projects. Students will soon begin to work on their final projects and many of my students are already trying to book the iPad in advance!
