My students are great individuals who want to do well, but are often frustrated by the roadblocks they face. Even I sometimes forget the difficulties they face, things I never dreamed of when I was their age. Living in California, one of their biggest challenges is their weakness in reading, writing and speaking English. So many live in a world where they have minimal exposure to English until 5 years old. Since most are only exposed to English at school, you have a better understanding of their frustration. They are trying to learn their academics in a second language where they are also being assessed.
