With students using headphones, it has allowed for a much quieter environment to meet with other small groups or students one-on-one.\r\nStudents are also able to use their whiteboards when working on math warm-ups to show their work and then partner talk. They also use them when working on our math apps to guide their math understanding of the problems. They are also helpful to use when students just need a clipboard for other work when they come to the rug for a lesson. Reading and writing papers go in their English Language Arts folder; math work goes in their Math folder; and any unfinished work goes into their Unfinished Work folder. The pencil bags have been holding up just nicely, housing their pencils, pens, glue sticks, high lighter, and scissors. In addition, the class has been using their composition notebooks daily for grammar work, reading, and writing. Their eyes lit up, and there was an immediate chorus of \"¡Mira!\" and \"Wow!\" as they reached for the puppets and colorful books. For 6-year-olds, having brand-new, tactile materials makes them feel incredibly valued and excited to learn.\r\n\r\nWe are already using these resources daily to bring our stories to life. A specific moment that stands out happened last week during our morning reading circle. While reading one of our new mentor books, I used the felt board and characters to visually map out the story. The children were completely captivated. Afterwards, they eagerly took turns using the finger puppets to retell the story. In addition, students are using their imaginations to create original stories.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, our next steps involve a creative storytelling and literacy unit. The students will use the paints to create their own story backdrops, and we will use the finger puppets and felt board characters to help them invent and act out their own original tales.
