Their eyes lit up and could not wait to begin using them. These donations were also helpful for our 10th grade AVID students. \r\n\r\nThese planners have been vital for our students and will continue to be an essential tool for the rest of the school year. At the start of every class period, students are given a minimum of of 7 minutes to go over their planner to see what they have accomplished and what is to come. At the beginning of every month, the class looks over the calendar and fills in how their academic month will look like by implementing due dates for projects, upcoming test and holidays, as well as activities they may have over the weekend. Every Monday the class fills in any weekly tasks in effort to stay on task with assignments and quizzes. \r\n\r\nAll of these projects are for my students to get the best out of their education. I see the potential in all of my students and with the rightful resources, each of my AVID students can achieve their academic/career goals with grand aplomb. Oftentimes students would be at a standstill in their work while they waited for someone else to finish using the scissors or glue sticks, giving them time to get distracted or potentially not finish their assignment at all. Now, I have enough classroom supplies for a 1:1 student/supply ratio, preventing that class time loss and student frustration.\r\n\r\nHaving these supply packs has created a notable shift in how group projects go as well, as students are communicating with one another to get the supplies they need from the pack. In years past, it has been challenging to get students to use their history notebook only for history, resulting in confusion and scattered lessons. This year, I am proud and pleased to say that all my students are exclusively using this notebook for their World History class, and we have seen so much fruit from that!\r\n\r\nMy students were so honored to have notebooks donated to them. They were shocked that they did not have to find a way to purchase their own, and relieved they can leave it in my classroom every day so they do not lose it. \r\n\r\nBecause the notebooks were purchased for them, it has been easier to create routines where they leave their notebooks on a bookshelf in my classroom. Every day when they enter, they go to the bookshelf and grab their notebook, turning to their \"Do Now\" page to start their daily quick write. Not only have our beginning-of-class routines improved, but student organization has improved a great deal. My 10th graders are currently working on a project where they must create an informative brochure about the French Revolution. Others are enjoying that the music itself is laid out in a clear format for beginners, including note names and \"reminders\" for each new concept of vocabulary term.\r\nGetting everything going at the beginning of the school year is a little slow with class schedules settling in, teaching the basic names of the instruments and parts of instruments before checking out equipment, and of course, simply acquiring enough instruments for a whole new class. Students were very excited to learn how to take out their instruments, add on small accessories, and get tuned up before diving right in with their new books. There are excellent exercises for beginner, intermediate, and advanced players, so any beginner can connect with their friends in the advanced classes to make music together.
