Caring about the small details sometimes makes the biggest difference. Rotating through regular daily use by 100+ high school students, many accessories naturally wear out, and we have to make do with electrical tape wrapping and putting together whatever we can gather. Sound becomes uneven and proper playing technique becomes quite difficult when sticks chip, crack, and even become unsafe. \r\n\r\nAs our program continues to grow, I get to see joy on the faces of students in all classes when they are given new materials and instruments to use every day. \"How did we get so many all new sticks, not passed down from some other group?\" If we receive a gift or donation, all students know the sources and get excited to make their own personal \"unboxing videos\" where they slide the paper sleeves off their new drumsticks and describe how new music equipment smells. However, they seem to be the most excited to discard mismatched, taped sticks once and for all rather than saving them for a rainy day! Now that all sticks are new, unbroken, and of matching style, we've reclaimed quite a bit of instructional time usually lost to searching for reasonable sticks that might reasonably match. I feel blessed to be a small part of showing these young people that everyone is deserving of trying new creative musical opportunities with materials. His humor had students laughing out loud as we read together in class, but it also sparked thoughtful discussions about racism, identity, injustice, and resilience. The combination of humor and honesty helped the lessons truly stick. I believe the stories in this book will make a lasting impression on my students long after the school year ends.\r\n\r\nI am eternally grateful for this opportunity to teach something that is current, funny, and relevant to today's world—something my students could genuinely relate to while also expanding their understanding of global history and social justice. The binders have also helped students stay more organized, giving them a reliable place to store notes, handouts, and problem sets.\r\n\r\nThe markers and magnets are now essential parts of our daily routine. During our most recent unit, students worked in groups at the boards to compare strategies for solving probability problems. Having clear, working markers and the ability to post problem sets and examples using magnets made the whole process smoother and more engaging. I noticed quieter students speaking up more and taking ownership of their learning in new ways.\r\n\r\nYour gift has done more than provide supplies. At the start of every class period, students are given a minimum of of 7 minutes to go over their planner to see what they have accomplished and what is to come. At the beginning of every month, the class looks over the calendar and fills in how their academic month will look like by implementing due dates for projects, upcoming test and holidays, as well as activities they may have over the weekend. Because of your help, I was able to create intentional supply packs for each table group that have created more efficiency and collaboration during art projects and group work.\r\n\r\nIn years past, precious class time was wasted while students got out of their seats to gather materials. Oftentimes students would be at a standstill in their work while they waited for someone else to finish using the scissors or glue sticks, giving them time to get distracted or potentially not finish their assignment at all. Now, I have enough classroom supplies for a 1:1 student/supply ratio, preventing that class time loss and student frustration.\r\n\r\nHaving these supply packs has created a notable shift in how group projects go as well, as students are communicating with one another to get the supplies they need from the pack. This year, I am proud and pleased to say that all my students are exclusively using this notebook for their World History class, and we have seen so much fruit from that!\r\n\r\nMy students were so honored to have notebooks donated to them. They were shocked that they did not have to find a way to purchase their own, and relieved they can leave it in my classroom every day so they do not lose it. \r\n\r\nBecause the notebooks were purchased for them, it has been easier to create routines where they leave their notebooks on a bookshelf in my classroom. Every day when they enter, they go to the bookshelf and grab their notebook, turning to their \"Do Now\" page to start their daily quick write. Not only have our beginning-of-class routines improved, but student organization has improved a great deal. My 10th graders are currently working on a project where they must create an informative brochure about the French Revolution.
