Once we return to campus, I want to continue the practice of small-group literature circles that we began online, but with the addition of more contemporary books that will help students talk about issues of social justice related to the modern world. Students will read books that explore issues of racial justice, LGBTQ+ identity, and economic hardship to learn more about the diversity of experiences in the world. I want students to discuss how their lived experiences and the experiences of characters and real people in these stories can help them develop a deeper understanding of what it means "to protect and serve."
