The different textures have kept them engaged and excited to learn, and it's been wonderful to see how each child interacts with the materials in their own unique way. They've enjoyed scooping, pouring, and shaping, all while building important fine motor and language skills through play.\r\n\r\nDuring our sessions, we've used the sensory table as a way to encourage communication, describing what we feel and see, and practicing new vocabulary. The students often share their creations with pride, using words and sentences to talk about what they made. It's been a great hands-on way to make speech therapy both fun and educational, turning each session into an opportunity for creativity and growth.","fullyFundedDate":1755736600531,"projectUrl":"project/sensory-table-for-the-speech-room/9437083/","projectTitle":"Sensory Table for the Speech Room!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Alvarez","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9593680_orig.jpg?crop=1636,1636,x0,y163&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1721071939864","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9593680"},{"teacherId":604634,"projectId":9243181,"letterContent":"In this digital world, students like mine know exactly what to do with a computer, but they need a lot more help with organizing papers and books. Their new folders and notebooks have helped them to maintain organization for ELA and math.\r\n\r\nWhen they complete math warm-ups in their notebooks, I don't worry about them losing their information. Families are able to see the work that students are doing each day. Also, when they write rough drafts, the notebooks are always available. We aren't wondering where they are or hoping they weren't left at home. We keep our notebooks in special places in the classroom so they know exactly where to get them and where to store them.\r\n\r\nFinally, having a class set of one of our favorite novels makes a huge impact on learning. Due to budget cuts and loss of funding, my school can't afford to order new sets of novels. Thanks to the donors, we have our first set for the year. Your gift has brought meaningful stories into the hands and hearts of our first graders, and I'm so excited to share how we are using these books.\r\n\r\nThis year, our social studies and literacy units focus on understanding the world around us—from people in our communities to leaders across our country and the globe—and how we, too, can make a difference. With the books you helped fund, my students are learning about people who have stood up for justice, helped their neighbors, and created change. It is especially powerful for them to read about role models who look like them, showing that they can be leaders, helpers, and changemakers as well.\r\n\r\nAlongside these lessons, we are also focusing on social-emotional learning and growth mindset. Many of the new books introduce important skills such as how to name and work through big feelings, how to show empathy toward others, and how to keep trying even when something feels difficult. Reading about characters who face challenges and persist gives my students the chance to talk about their own struggles in a safe and encouraging way.\r\n\r\nIn our classroom, reading looks like a mix of shared read alouds, partner reading, and independent exploration of our library. During read alouds, students listen closely, ask questions, and make connections to their own lives. When they read independently or with a partner, I see them smiling at pictures, sounding out new words, and whispering excitedly about what they notice. The room is often filled with a happy buzz as students turn pages and share discoveries with each other.\r\n\r\nOne student who has especially connected with our new books is a little girl who often feels shy about speaking in class. After reading a story about a young girl who used her voice to create change, she raised her hand to share her own dream of helping animals in our community. Since then, she has become one of our most enthusiastic participants during discussions, proudly telling her classmates, \"I can make a difference too!\"\r\n\r\nYour generosity has helped bring these important stories to life for my first graders. These books are not just helping them learn how to read, they are teaching them how to see themselves as readers, thinkers, and change makers in their world. Thank you for giving them that gift.","fullyFundedDate":1749431112916,"projectUrl":"project/books-that-help-us-belong-and-believe/9245175/","projectTitle":"Books That Help Us Belong and Believe","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Makin","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp576448_orig.jpg?crop=404,404,x0,y9&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1560395497736","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrs-makin"},{"teacherId":9601247,"projectId":8666477,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your contribution to my classroom rug!
