These hands-on activities brought science to life for our students in ways that traditional lessons simply cannot. As students imagined, designed, and built their own creatures, they deepened their understanding of genetic traits, adaptation, and creativity in a tangible, joyful way. The 3D pens gave them a chance to see their ideas take shape—literally—and inspired confidence in their ability to turn imagination into innovation.\r\n\r\nThe excitement in the room was unmistakable. Students who were hesitant at first quickly became fully engaged, discussing inherited traits and explaining their design choices to peers with pride. Many began connecting these scientific concepts to the real world—comparing traits in their own families, pets, and even insects they found on the playground. The project not only reinforced core science standards but also sparked curiosity, collaboration, and critical thinking that extended beyond the classroom.\r\n\r\nThis project reminded us that when learning is creative and hands-on, students see themselves as scientists, engineers, and inventors. Thank you for helping us provide this experience that encouraged our students to explore, take risks, and celebrate the science in their everyday world.","fullyFundedDate":1757592940904,"projectUrl":"project/bringing-ideas-to-life-using-3d-pens/9604544/","projectTitle":"Bringing Ideas to Life Using 3d Pens","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Prins","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp1678465_orig.jpg?crop=2448,2448,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1650837275966","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrs-prins"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_28020","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":646,"numTeachers":29,"percentFrplEligible":29,"percentAsian":15,"percentBlack":2,"percentWhite":22,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":45,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"22.3:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":92.2,"schoolId":28020,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Los Alamitos Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Los Alamitos Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/los-alamitos-unified-school-district/los-alamitos-elementary-school/28020"}
