My original plan was to try to rearrange furniture to create three calm corners, but I decided to make it into one large calm space where 1-3 students can use to take a break when they feel overwhelmed from the school day.\r\n\r\nThrough community-building lessons, my concern for have isolated calm corners had lessened. Students have also taken advantage of this shared calm space to emotionally support one another. Several times through the school year, I have seen students go together to the calm space to support their friend who is emotionally dysregulated.\r\n\r\nAnother thing that changed from my original intention was the usage of the pillows and rugs. I have incorporated them into our morning sharing time where we as a call all sit together to share something about ourselves. Students are allowed to borrow either or pillow or rug to use as we share one by one about something about ourselves, how we are feeling, what we did, or we will do. Thank you again for your generous impact on the daily school life of these students.","fullyFundedDate":1766883200205,"projectUrl":"project/calm-corners/9788172/","projectTitle":"Calm Corners","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Dirilo","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9781827"},{"teacherId":10167755,"projectId":9572587,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous contribution to my classroom project, \"Bringing the Outdoors In: Artful Nature Journals for Our Class\". Students were thrilled to receive their nature journaling pouches with their very own notebook, colored pencils, and clipboard. We discussed the connection between their new materials and how \"real\" scientists observed the world. Embracing this connection between themselves and the habits of scientists, students were very excited to go outside and start their observations. \r\n\r\nWe have already spent several sessions in our school garden drawing plants and creatures that capture students' attention. Students are learning to slow down, observe closely, notice patterns, and pay attention to change. The class has become more curious about the world around them! My transitional kindergarteners enjoyed learning with all the resources purchased through this project. The legos are used every single morning during our activity time and our students were able to create not just the models from the kits but also their own creations.
