With books at different reading levels and across different genres and topics, every student in my 10th and 11th grade classes can find something that engages them. When students are reading books they actually care about, they naturally develop stronger reading comprehension, critical thinking skills, and a genuine love of reading. That foundation matters far more than forcing everyone through the same text.\r\n\r\nReading in my classroom has become something students choose to do, not just something they have to do. Students complete book projects, but many are also grabbing these books purely for enjoyment during independent reading time. The variety means there's genuinely something for everyone. One student in particular has checked out multiple books just for fun, which tells me everything I need to know about the impact of this collection.","fullyFundedDate":1767759407916,"projectUrl":"project/classroom-library/9981301/","projectTitle":"Classroom Library","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Burwell","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10047874_orig.jpg?crop=1242,1242,x0,y608&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1767641266790","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10047874"},{"teacherId":1536879,"projectId":10039971,"letterContent":"Every quarter, my students have an assigned book project they have to complete. This ensures that they are reading the same novel and that they also see me reading my choice novel during class. Usually, the kids who struggle the most in committing to a novel are the boys. I don't know if it's because of the topic or because they just don't read much anymore. Your donations have helped tremendously because a lot of the novels donated have been checked out. \r\n\r\nMy boys have started their reading project this last quarter of the school year, and they are finally excited to keep reading. We read The Great Gatsby together, and I walk them through how to track the characters' development because they will do the same as they finish their own book. We analyze the characters' development as we get to the end, and we also discuss how this development impacts the overall meaning of the novel. The self reflection card game is a perfect way to help me learn more about my students and Uno is just such a classic fan favorite. Both of these games are used so often! I would not have been able to make this all possible without the little things like tape to hang up decor, wall USB blocks to plug in electric items, and my students say a huge thank you for the phone charger! Lastly, one of my most used items is the mini dry erase whiteboard that I use to leave messages for students. This allows me to communicate when I'll be off campus, when we're on assembly schedule, or having a fire drill, or have a day off, or to just write motivational messages to bring a smile to their face! It's tucked away and most often offered to students during a highly emotional state (Ex: panic attack or extreme anger). The fidget controller is always a fan favorite followed by marble mesh fidgets and acupuncture rings.
