Having a 3D printer has been great for my student's learning. We have used this machine to create 3d shapes during our geometry unit. Students really enjoyed selecting their colors for this project. Once created they used them to describe the attributes of each shape. This was a fun way for my students to learn about 3d shapes.\r\n\r\nMany students have not used a 3d printer so this was very exciting for all. The level of creativity this has opened for my students has been so meaningful. We are looking forward to our next project, making game pieces for a boardgame! All of our students were so excited as they entered the classroom. They started the day with dressing like pirates and creating pirate names for themselves by deciphering a code. During the day we completed \"Redbeard's Challenge\" escape room. This provided levels of review with adding and subtracting with regrouping. After that we studied angles and quadrilaterals through the use of computer slides. In the end, students wrote an opinion essay on whether or not the Scallywag captain should chase the monkey, that stole the ruby up the flag pole. It was a fun and engaging day! Throughout our novel study, the students created leveled questions about the chapters and then discussed in Socratic Seminar discussions. They worked together to find text evidence to answer the questions they came up with. The students created one pagers about the book that included drawings, leveled questions, and facts. They also completed a five paragraph essay about what makes Percy Jackson a hero. We have also used the acrylic paint markers for our culminating activity, after learning about animal adaptations. They painted mini bird houses with these markers.
