My third graders live in a high poverty area in Northern California, not far from Silicon Valley in miles, but worlds away in terms of tech use and knowledge. Most receive free or reduced lunches and many are second language learners. They are beginning to believe that college is an option for their futures and are planning for what they will contribute to the world as they grow up. My job is to help them continue to foster that dream. Learning to use technology throughout their day has allowed them to connect to the world outside of their classroom & neighborhood and is leading them to think outside of the box. My students are eager to learn and want to make a difference in the world. Technology is providing them with that opportunity. Stacie Ryan, M.A.Ed., Ed.D.
