They've already been learning to use the equipment by conducting some interviews with teachers and plans are afoot to film some skits and content for schoolwide lessons.\r\n\r\nThe students LOVE the light ring, and it makes such a difference when under fluorescent classroom lighting or the gym. The microphones are probably the biggest game changer given prior attempts to film with phone microphones were muffled and plagued by ambient noise. That is no longer an issue and the students are having so much fun conducting interviews and trying different distances, angles, etc for the best effect. Even the teachers are having fun in the spotlight!\r\n\r\nThank you for giving my students access to new technology as I strongly feel that a familiarity with basic tools like these is essential for youth entering the job market. Oddly, there was fierce competition for carrots, broccoli, and buttercrunch lettuce, lol. Not so much for the kale. It was so chaotic that I forgot to take a picture, but that is part of the beauty of having students engage in something hands-on like gardening. They all gently pressed their seeds into the soil and sprinkled a layer atop with nary a phone in sight. \r\n\r\nEvery day they walk in and check out the progress of their tiny little sprouts and the magic captures them. The additional yarn, hooks, and supplies you helped provide allowed my students to take this project further than we had originally imagined. With a greater variety of materials available, students had more flexibility in their designs and were able to explore creative solutions beyond the initial coral reef concept. This variety sparked experimentation and empowered students to make meaningful choices in their work.\r\n\r\nAs the project developed, our Sculpture class began to discuss ways to connect their art more directly to our school community. Students themselves advocated for more freedom, leading to the idea of \"yarn bombing\" the campus. While some students continued crocheting coral reefs, others created Minions, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, internal organs (displayed near our BioTech classroom), and playful fruits and flowers. These imaginative works found their way onto architectural features and natural spaces around campus, transforming ordinary places into vibrant, unexpected galleries.\r\n\r\nThe impact was felt far beyond the classroom. Students, teachers, and staff shared photos on Instagram and talked enthusiastically about the colorful surprises around campus. Additionally, students crafted \"I Am From\" poems, using the donated supplies to illustrate their personal stories and cultural backgrounds. These posters create a meaningful display that celebrates student identity while showcasing their writing skills.\r\n\r\nBeyond creative projects, incentives like candy help motivate students across different classes. In our senior English class, students eagerly compete in vocabulary Kahoots and grammar games, with candy serving as a fun reward for winners. This small incentive encourages engagement and friendly competition while reinforcing key language skills.
