We recently received the materials funded through our DonorsChoose project, and I can't tell you how meaningful your contribution has been for my students and me. \r\n\r\nWe've already started putting the resources to work. For example, we started our unit on government and democracy recently. The materials have been vital to all my students, but especially those with disabilities. Using the voting paddles and reading tools have created instant engagement and understanding of complex topics. It's been incredible to watch them collaborate, problem-solve, and take ownership of their learning in a new way.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has truly opened doors for my students — not just to new supplies, but to deeper learning experiences that will stay with them far beyond the classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1758830181005,"projectUrl":"project/classroom-learning-reimagined/9646461/","projectTitle":"Classroom Learning Reimagined!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Fonzi","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8518478_orig.jpg?crop=2308,2308,x715,y504&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1657581585535","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8518478"},{"teacherId":8518478,"projectId":9299066,"letterContent":"Visiting each student at their home the night before promotion to drop off a book is truly one of the best experiences of the school year. Parents helped by keeping this a surprise and being equally as excited for their children. \r\n\r\nAs a teacher, it is a very humbling experience. Each day students show up to school to learn, but there is so much as teachers we don't see. Our reading and math programs that we use daily require listening on the computer. With these headphones, my students are more likely to focus on their work without distracting others. Their ears are now in comfortable cushioned headphones, rather than the plastic, barely foam, ear buds that they used to have. Once they saw the headphones, they were so excited to get to listening to their favorite audiobooks!\r\n\r\nThis year my focus with these students were to encourage them to read more engaging stories. I introduced audiobooks to them in hopes that might get to them to fall in love with a series. Some students can get intimidated when there are too many words on the page. But audiobooks allow my students to enjoy a story without the stresses of printed text. The headphones just add a special feeling of listening to a good book without the worries of the sound going in and out. \r\n\r\nThe headphones not only allow the students to focus independently, they allow myself to teach students in smaller groups. These resources have made a huge difference in our classroom, not just in terms of cleanliness but also in fostering a sense of comfort and well-being among my students. We've been using the donated hygiene products in a variety of ways. For instance, students now have access to hand sanitizers, tissues, and wipes throughout the day, which has helped maintain a healthier environment. In one specific moment, we used the products during a hands-on science experiment. After handling materials, students could easily clean their hands, ensuring they stayed safe and focused on learning.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the hygiene materials, their reactions were filled with surprise and gratitude. Many of them expressed how they hadn't realized how much they needed these supplies until they saw them all lined up and ready for use. Some even shared how it made them feel more comfortable coming to school knowing that they could stay clean and healthy. It was a powerful reminder of how these everyday essentials are often taken for granted but are crucial for both physical and mental well-being, allowing our students to focus more on their studies.\r\n\r\nOnce again, thank you for your incredible generosity. Your contributions have made a tremendous difference in the lives of our students. Here's a look at how the technology you've helped provide is transforming their learning experience:\r\n\r\n\r\nIn today's classrooms, technology is more than just a tool; it's an integral part of how students engage with lessons, explore new concepts, and develop critical skills. For example, interactive learning platforms allow students to dive deeper into subjects with real-time feedback, enabling them to learn at their own pace. The use of tablets and laptops has facilitated personalized learning, where students can access resources, participate in discussions, and even collaborate with peers from different classes. Technology also empowers teachers to track progress and identify areas where students might need additional help, ensuring no one falls behind.\r\n\r\n\r\nThe most exciting aspect of the new technology is its ability to bring learning to life in ways that were not possible before. Whether it's virtual field trips, interactive simulations, or hands-on experiences in coding and robotics, our students are thrilled by the immersive, engaging opportunities that the technology provides. For example, when studying science, they can explore the human body in 3D or watch a live demonstration of a chemical reaction. These types of learning experiences make abstract concepts more tangible and spark curiosity in ways that traditional methods simply can't match.\r\n\r\n \r\nYes, we've seen students from all backgrounds embrace the technology in different ways. Some of our most excited learners are those who struggle with traditional learning methods. For example, students with learning disabilities have found the interactive nature of educational apps and programs to be incredibly helpful, allowing them to approach tasks in smaller, more manageable steps. Additionally, students who previously lacked confidence in math and science have thrived in these subjects, thanks to the hands-on, visual nature of the tech tools. It's also been particularly rewarding to see our more tech-savvy students take on leadership roles, helping their peers navigate the new tools and encouraging collaboration.\r\n\r\nOnce again, thank you for your incredible support. The impact of your contribution goes beyond what can be measured in grades – it's creating excitement, fostering curiosity, and building confidence in our students, who are now better equipped for success in the future.","fullyFundedDate":1684073027677,"projectUrl":"project/thinkers-outside-the-box/7383640/","projectTitle":"Thinkers Outside The Box","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Gonzalez","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp3569130_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1473889627339","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mathematicianmindset"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_40661","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":460,"numTeachers":24,"percentFrplEligible":78,"percentAsian":4,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":1,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":89,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 6","studentTeacherRatio":"19.2:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":83.5,"schoolId":40661,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Otay Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Otay Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/chula-vista-elementary-school-district/otay-elementary-school/40661"}
