My students are eager and excited about learning. They particularly love science and writing. While my students are eager learners, many of them struggle with background knowledge, particularly vocabulary. In my classroom, I have many English Language Learners. So bringing realia or items into lessons really helps. Also, at our school, we work with many students who live in poverty. Working in an area with poverty presents many challenges. Some students lack motivation and do not value education as we wish they would. So I see my job as two-fold. I need to teach the curriculum, but also work on getting my students excited about education.
