Because of you, our students now have new balls for PE and recess, as well as an exciting collection of graphic novels and chapter books. Your kindness has already made a meaningful difference in our students' daily school experience—both academically and socially.\r\nThe new books have brought a renewed excitement for reading into our classroom. The graphic novels help students develop important skills such as sequencing, making inferences using both text and illustrations, and building stamina as readers. The chapter books support comprehension, vocabulary growth, and listening skills during read-alouds and independent reading time. In our classroom, reading looks like students curled up with books they are excited about, discussing characters with classmates, and proudly choosing books that match their interests and reading levels.\r\nSeveral students who were previously hesitant readers are especially enjoying the graphic novels. These texts have helped them feel more confident and motivated, as the visuals support their understanding and keep them engaged. At the same time, the new recess and PE balls have encouraged teamwork, cooperation, and positive social interactions, helping students stay active and focused throughout the day.\r\nYour generosity has provided our students with opportunities to grow as readers, learners, and teammates. Thank you for believing in our classroom and helping us create a joyful, engaging learning environment. We are truly grateful for your support.","fullyFundedDate":1767968258050,"projectUrl":"project/recess-and-reading-building-brains-and/9933984/","projectTitle":"Recess and Reading: Building Brains and Bodies","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Evangelista","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp3589240_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1627512239583","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mslamsclass"},{"teacherId":1644577,"projectId":9886351,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your very generous donation. My students were thrilled when the box arrived. When students pass their sight words they get an award and I send a photo to their parents. They love getting messages how their parents are so proud of them! I was so excited to put a scratch and sniff sticker on their tests. It reminds me of my childhood when I'd get them on my papers. This was the first time to ever receive a scratch and sniff and they can't wait for the next test to get a different smell. Finally, getting to pick a goody bag with a treasure box item is so exciting. They have better behavior in class so they can earn this special prize. Look at all those happy smiles!! When my students walked in and saw all the bins on my back table they got so excited. \r\n\r\nI had everyone clean out their desk and transfer their workbooks and folders to the new bins. Students found old work that was supposed to go home smushed in the back of the desk. Another student finally found her homework folder! \r\n\r\nEveryone now has a neat desk and can stay organized. Learning to put things away neatly is a skill. The bins help them stay organized. I'm hoping these skills of organization and cleanliness transfer to their homes. I can only image how messy their bedroom is by looking at how their desk was. Thank you so much for showing my students that you care. They promised to take good care of them so I can reuse them every year. They also thought the color was pretty and matched my classroom. I have an ocean theme. First grade is a foundational year. If they are reading in first grade they have a much higher rate of success. \r\n\r\nThese books are huge motivators for my students. They all want to be the ones to read the book first. My classroom books are very worn out. Pages get separated from the book and get ripped. A few of my books are barely hanging on with tape. It's very expensive to constantly replace books. \r\n\r\nYour gift of new books brought so many smiles. They have characters that my students enjoy such as Dogman and Fly Guy. They love choosing the books they read independently. You provided them with non fiction material which I don't have a lot of. It's really important for their comprehension. Most adults read non fiction so your gift is helping prepare them for the future!
