We are using the new resources every day during small-group instruction, individualized learning activities, and classroom routines. The hands-on materials and visual supports help make learning more accessible for my students and give them opportunities to practice important academic, communication, social-emotional, and independent living skills.\r\n\r\nOne special project we are working on is building social-emotional skills by helping students identify and express their feelings. Materials such as the EMOTIONAL BAGGAGE plush toy give students a fun and comfortable way to talk about emotions, ask for help, and learn strategies for managing their feelings. Students have enjoyed touching, exploring, and using the materials during lessons, and some have been especially motivated to participate because the activities feel more like play while still supporting important learning goals. The storage bench also gives us a welcoming space where students can read, relax, and participate in small-group activities.\r\n\r\nOur next steps are to continue using these materials to support communication, emotional regulation, academic learning, and independence. We will continue practicing identifying emotions, communicating wants and needs, following classroom routines, and making choices independently. When I first had the organizers unboxed and stacked, the students were super excited to break in their new chair pockets! It was a joy to see their faces light up as they realized they would have a dedicated space to keep their tools ready for learning.\r\n\r\nThe impact on our daily routine has been immediate. Each student had the choice of which materials to store in their organizer, allowing them to free up much-needed space in their small desks. They spent time carefully deciding what to store where, which gave them a wonderful sense of autonomy and ownership over their learning environment.
