My students were amazed to learn that people who didn't know them contributed to our classroom. The first lesson you taught them is that there are wonderful people like you in the world who are willing to help others even if they don't know them. This story is so wonderful and interesting that even students who usually don't like to read want to keep reading to find out what will happen next. This book has started to build an interest in reading which wasn't present in some of my students. \r\n We started reading the book as a whole class, with a student reading a paragraph and then another reading the next. We do a first read of each chapter just to figure out how to read the words. We then do a second read where we spend time trying to understand the story events, words we don't know, etc. We also spend time trying to analyze each character and each event. Each day, before we start, we try to predict what will happen next in the story. This has greatly improved my students' critical thinking skills. \r\n Thanks to your generosity, my students are developing their critical thinking skills but most importantly, are developing a love for reading. I appreciate your generosity and am humbled by it.","fullyFundedDate":1733586524348,"projectUrl":"project/reading-comprehension-using-a-novel/8989268/","projectTitle":"Reading Comprehension Using a Novel","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Engineer","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp5036250_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1733361812591","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/5036250"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_4672","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":453,"numTeachers":26,"percentFrplEligible":83,"percentAsian":6,"percentBlack":1,"percentWhite":0,"percentIndigenous":1,"percentLatinx":87,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"17.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":79.7,"schoolId":4672,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Hubbard Media Arts Academy on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Hubbard Media Arts Academy","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/alum-rock-elementary-school-district/hubbard-elementary-school/4672"}
