These books have helped them make meaningful connections, improving their ability to visualize, retell, and understand what they read.\r\n\r\nThe impact has been evident every day in our classroom. Students who once hesitated to pick up a book are now eager to participate, share their thoughts, and even read aloud. These picture books have created a safe and encouraging space where they can practice fluency without fear of frustration. As their confidence grows, so do their skills—they are becoming more independent readers who believe in their own ability to succeed.\r\n\r\nYour support has done more than provide books; it has given my students a renewed sense of excitement about learning and a belief that they can overcome challenges. Multisensory learning has made a powerful impact in our classroom, transforming the way students engage with reading and spelling by incorporating sight, touch, sound, and movement. Through this project, we were able to extend these strategies by welcoming other students into our classroom and creating opportunities for peer-to-peer learning.\r\n\r\nThis experience provided meaningful growth for both my students and their peers. My students stepped into leadership roles by teaching visiting students how to use multisensory strategies to practice reading and spelling. As they modeled and explained these techniques, they deepened their own understanding while building confidence, communication skills, and a strong sense of responsibility.\r\n\r\nDuring these visits, students participated in interactive literacy stations designed to make learning both engaging and effective. They used materials such as gel boards, scratch art, markers, paint sticks, Wikki Stix, and Play-Doh to practice forming letters and words. Additional activities with magnets, magnetic bingo chips, labels, spinners, and pouches turned literacy practice into hands-on, meaningful experiences. These activities allowed visiting students to actively engage in learning while discovering new ways to approach reading and spelling.\r\n\r\nThe addition of a prize wheel brought excitement and motivation, encouraging participation and allowing students to take home items like Play-Doh and instant snow to continue practicing in a multisensory way.\r\n\r\nWe also extended our impact beyond the classroom by sharing these strategies with the broader community during our fall festival. We created a literacy basket filled with multisensory materials and resources, giving families practical tools to support reading and spelling at home.\r\n\r\nAs a result of this project:\r\n\r\n-Students developed leadership and communication skills by teaching their peers\r\n-Visiting students gained exposure to effective, hands-on literacy strategies\r\n-Families were provided with resources to support literacy at home\r\n-Engagement in reading and spelling increased through interactive learning\r\n\r\nThis project has already made a lasting impact by empowering students as leaders, strengthening literacy skills, and fostering connections between our classroom and the wider community.\r\n\r\nThank you for helping us make this possible!","fullyFundedDate":1728936854055,"projectUrl":"project/multisensory-literacy-outreach-empoweri/8848959/","projectTitle":"Multisensory Literacy Outreach: Empowering Students and the Community","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Nicole","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp2574414_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1483239316936","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/nevers"},{"teacherId":6751394,"projectId":9326545,"letterContent":"Thank you from the bottom of mine and my students hearts for making this project come to life. They immediately began brainstorming what they could draw, build, and design. For many of my students, who often feel frustrated by traditional pencil-and-paper tasks, these hands-on tools gave them newfound confidence and possibility.\r\n\r\nIn one session, a student who is usually hesitant to speak proudly walked me through each step of the drawing guide as she created her own picture. She used new sequencing words, \"first,\" \"next,\" and \"then\", that we've been practicing, and she beamed when her classmates understood her directions. Another group eagerly used the sticker pads to create their own scenes, then took turns telling stories about what was happening in their pictures. \r\n\r\nBecause of your generosity, our therapy room has transformed into a place where language grows through creativity.
