At our Book Tasting students get to move from table to table every three minutes to get their eyes (and hands) on all of the new books. They can remember their favorites and come back in to check out after all of the classes have seen them. The books are then moved to bookcases labeled \"NEW\" for a month or so before going to their forever spots in the library.\r\n\r\nThis year we have genrefied the chapter book section of the library. So all of the sports books are in a section together and the Stick Dog books are in the fantasy section together and so on. Not only is it easier to find the kind of book you want it is visually appealing and easier to identify the series. For that reason, we very much cherish the time we are able to spend outdoors, exploring nature, learning how to navigate play structures and most excitingly, RIDE BIKES and WIGGLE CARS! We were pretty disappointed last year when we realized how many of our wiggle cars had been damaged from years and years of use. So, we thought we'd take a chance to see if any amazing donors would help us replenish our supply of wiggle cars, otherwise we knew we'd be breaking a lot of little hearts. \r\n\r\nWhen this project got funded, I did an actual little dance in the kitchen! I was so excited to build them, and wait a few weeks until our school year started so that we could surprise our students with NINE brand new wiggle cars! \r\n\r\nToday, I opened that bike shed for the first time and you could just HEAR the cheers from all the kindergarteners! To say they were excited would be an actual understatement! They were giddy to choose their color and get riding! It's so amazing to watch them use those little bodies and work those muscles and coordination! Today was the BEST DAY EVER! Thank you so much for providing this opportunity to our kids! If I could bottle up the energy and excitement of TWENTY five year olds when they received these sensory items, we could change the world with it! Just imagine squeals, clapping and shrieking! Imagine the many immediate pleas of \"Can I try it first?\" \"Is it my turn yet?\" \r\n\r\nTruly, these spinning chairs and vibration plate have added such a unique component to our classroom. Students come into our classroom every day carrying hidden stresses we know nothing about. Several of my students have diagnoses that include sensory needs. Just having these materials available to ALL my students has changed the way they respond to disregulation. They know if they just need a moment to spin on a chair or get sensory input from the vibration plate, they can just take a few minutes to do so and then are usually better equipped to rejoin classroom instruction. \r\n\r\nAs we head into our final quarter of kindergarten, we appreciate having these tools at our disposal. The kids have been so grateful and the news has spread to other classrooms that we possess these tools. We often have visitors from other classes who need an outlet and we are always happy to share our amazing tools! Magnatiles encourage teamwork and group collaborations. Many a tall tower was built to see how high they could stretch the materials and many a house, neighborhood, village or shopping area was developed.\r\n\r\nDuring the month of December we always do lessons on coding from Hour of Code.org. This year in addition to those lessons on the computer we were able to use our BeeBots to learn how to code. They are collecting insects on the playground to observe and then release as well!\r\n\r\nThese enrichment activities wouldn't be possible without your generous support. Making learning fun and meaningful truly makes all the difference.
