We love to learn outside and believe a classroom is more than the walls inside a building. Thanks to your generous donations, we now have two outdoor learning carts. One is focused on math and the other is ELA. We have used them to help with math skills, writing, describing, etc. They were very excited to share all our new tools and help to organize the carts. The students build with letter magnet tiles, they write descritpive stories with our new animals, they have been strengthening their math skills with the number bonds and ten frames!\r\n\r\nThis was also an amazing lesson to show what it means to donate and help others. The excitement on their faces as they explored the new materials was a beautiful reminder that learning doesn't always begin with a worksheet—it often begins with curiosity, imagination, and the chance to play.\r\n\r\nBecause of your generosity, three SEALS classrooms in the Tempe School District received sensory tools, dramatic play materials, STEM resources, and everyday classroom supplies that have transformed our learning environments. Every item has found a purpose, and every donation has made a meaningful difference.\r\n\r\nMany of our students learn best through hands-on experiences. Having access to preferred sensory items has given them the opportunity to regulate their bodies, increase their focus, and participate more successfully in classroom activities. What may seem like a simple sensory tool can be the key that helps a student feel calm, confident, and ready to learn. Those small moments often lead to our biggest victories.\r\n\r\nThe STEM materials have opened the door to creativity and collaboration in ways we could only imagine. Our train track engineering stations quickly became a classroom favorite as students worked together to design, build, test, and redesign their creations. While they were having fun, they were also practicing critical thinking, problem-solving, communication, and teamwork. Watching students celebrate each other's ideas and work through challenges together has been one of the greatest gifts this grant has provided.\r\n\r\nOur dramatic play centers have also become incredible spaces for learning. Whether students are pretending to be teachers, veterinarians, doctors, or classmates, they're doing much more than playing. They're practicing conversations, taking turns, building empathy, solving problems, and gaining confidence in real-life social situations. These opportunities are especially meaningful for our learners as they develop communication and social skills that will serve them well beyond the classroom.\r\n\r\nOf course, it's often the everyday supplies that quietly make the biggest impact. Fresh Play-Doh sparks creativity, new pencils encourage reluctant writers, and classroom materials ensure every student has the tools they need to participate with confidence. These simple resources remove barriers and allow us to focus on what matters most—helping every child experience success.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has done far more than stock our classrooms. You have created opportunities for discovery, encouraged meaningful connections, and filled our classrooms with joyful learning experiences. Every time a student proudly shares a new creation, independently uses a sensory tool to regulate, or confidently steps into a dramatic play role, we are reminded that your kindness made those moments possible.\r\n\r\nOn behalf of our students, families, and staff, thank you for believing in the power of public education and for investing in classrooms like ours. Your support has created lasting opportunities for learning, growth, and connection. The impact of your generosity will continue to be felt long after these supplies have been used, because the confidence, skills, and joyful memories our students are building today will stay with them for years to come.\r\n\r\nThank you for helping us create classrooms where every child is seen, supported, and inspired to learn.","fullyFundedDate":1733240058837,"projectUrl":"project/creating-calm-in-the-classroom-to-engage/8961107/","projectTitle":"Creating Calm in the Classroom to Engage Exceptional Learners","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Bell","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8372339_orig.jpg?crop=2316,2316,x0,y115&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1732243398082","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8372339"},{"teacherId":10048287,"projectId":9390553,"letterContent":"When the new materials arrived, my students faces lit up with excitement. They immediately wanted to dig into the sand, explore the new books, and try out the magnetic letters. For many of my students, hands-on tools like playdough, kinetic sand, and weighted lap pads are not just fun; they are essential for regulation, focus, and learning in our classroom. Having these resources available has made our room calmer, more engaging, and better equipped for all types of learners.\r\n\r\nOne of the most powerful moments was during rotation time. My students were able to use the playdough and sentence-building cards to create words and sentences. Seeing their pride as they showed me what they had built showed me just how much these resources are helping them connect learning in a meaningful way. The weighted lap pad and sensory sand have also given students tools to calm their bodies when they feel overwhelmed, allowing them to return to their learning more quickly.\r\n\r\nThe next step for our class is to keep using these tools to strengthen literacy, fine motor, and social-emotional skills. With the support of donors like you, my students now have access to resources that meet their unique needs and help them thrive.
