The core impact has been on their pride, confidence, and ability to connect deeply with their cultural heritage. With our club doubling in size to 45 participants, the need for authentic attire was urgent. Your donations have allowed us to outfit more students authentically, directly addressing their excitement and the goal of helping every child shine on stage. When the students first saw the materials, the vibrant, swirling skirts, the crisp charro vests, and the beautiful flower headbands, their reaction was pure, infectious joy. For many of our dancers, this was their first piece of authentic cultural wear, creating an immediate and visible sense of pride and belonging. They didn't just see costumes; they saw the physical representation of the history and tradition we study.\r\n\r\nWe just completed a major project preparing for the upcoming \"Breakfast with Santa\" school event. The authentic accessories you helped us acquire allowed more students to fully embody the tradition. The impact on them is profound: they move beyond simple steps and engage in the cultural study, learning the history, geography, and traditions behind the performance. By providing these resources, you are validating their hard work and heritage. This ability to represent their culture with dignity and accuracy has boosted their self-esteem, which is especially important in a school where 86% of students rely on free or reduced lunch. The feeling of representing their community in parades and school assemblies, looking like true artists, is an opportunity for positive expression and identity building that is truly priceless.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, the next step for our dancers is to immerse themselves in the rich culture of Jalisco, the traditional heartland of Mariachi music. Thank you for helping us keep this beautiful, empowering tradition alive for these deserving students.","fullyFundedDate":1757032751204,"projectUrl":"project/support-the-steps-that-share-our-story/9597133/","projectTitle":"Support the Steps That Share Our Story","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Ponce","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9708918_orig.jpg?crop=1080,1080,x0,y219&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1724701337068","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9708918"},{"teacherId":5875602,"projectId":9606615,"letterContent":"When the box containing all our new musical instruments arrived in the mail, and were delivered to our classroom, my preschoolers could not wait to open the box. We have seen an increase in our non-verbal students wanting to verbally interact when choosing their instruments(especially the Lollipop drums). If we miss a day without having time to use our musical instruments my preschoolers become very sad.\r\n\r\nIt is such a blessing to see and hear my preschoolers singing and playing the musical instruments. Many students are using them to focus during phonics practice, listen to stories, or work on personalized reading programs. With fewer distractions, they're more engaged and able to make the most of their learning time.\r\n\r\nThe pouches are being used daily as part of our Fundations phonics program. Students use them to carry their whiteboards, markers, and phonics books between lessons. These pouches help keep materials organized and easily accessible, which has made our routines smoother and our students more responsible.\r\n\r\nThe class set of Because of Winn-Dixie has sparked a lot of excitement! Students are eager to be the first group to use the brand-new books for a shared reading experience later in the year. They've been asking questions about the story and are already looking forward to reading it together.\r\n\r\nThank you for investing in our classroom. Our neighborhood school serves approximately 500 students and the micro:bits you allowed us to receive were used by 1-6 grade students--a vast majority of the school. The first thing we did when we received the micro:bits was a lesson on creating a digital nametag. Students begin to develop awareness of coding basics by using block coding to create a digital nametag in which their name scrolls across the LED matrix of the micro:bits. They also love taking it a step further and adding music to their nametags.\r\nThe second thing we used the micro:bits for was collecting data for a project that also uses our school's aeroponic garden for kids in grades 3-6. Students programmed the micro:bits to be temperature and light sensors that we then measured (along with plant height) over the course of several weeks. The project culminated in a graphing activity as well as discussions about patterns in the data and how we could potentially improve the plant growth process.\r\nAgain, I can't thank you enough for your donation. Prior to having this system, band was pretty boring for me and my students. Their songs are so simple at the beginning levels of playing. They were also having trouble with feeling the beat and how long to hold certain rhythm values. With this system, I can use the cool accompaniment tracks I write on my synthesizer or find online. The students are more engaged in learning the music, developing basic skills and learning how to play with other parts at the same time. They also learn about composing music by learning what it takes for me to write these tracks. They also get to give me their input regarding what the final track should sound like.\r\n\r\nThey LOVE the accompaniments! The energy in my room changed instantly for the better once I had a system I could play them on! I saw students tapping their feet to the beat, bobbing their heads, smiling, and asking me if I could write a few more tracks. At their concert, students mentioned how boring band was before the tracks and how they enjoy it a whole lot more with the tracks.
