Each station has a clear purpose—for example, students use fidget spinners and other small tools to help refocus and regulate their attention during tasks. At another station, students work with kinetic sand, not just for play, but to build letters and numbers while practicing letter sounds and counting skills. We also incorporate playdough as a creative storytelling tool, where students form objects and then describe them, helping build language and expressive communication. One moment that really stood out was a student who typically struggles to stay on task remaining engaged for an extended period while using the sensory materials alongside a structured activity—it opened the door for peer interaction and collaboration in a really natural way.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the materials, their reactions were full of excitement and curiosity. Many were eager to explore everything right away, especially the kinetic sand and playdough, while others were more cautious but quickly warmed up. The emotional boards quickly became a favorite, giving students a way to express how they feel and connect those emotions to their learning. The addition of the tablet has also been impactful, allowing students to access our Unique Learning System (ULS) program for interactive lessons while helping us track progress and assessment data in real time. Overall, the materials created a welcoming, supportive environment where students felt more comfortable participating and trying new things.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we are continuing to build these tools into structured life skills lessons focused on self-regulation, communication, and independence. Students will begin identifying which sensory supports work best for them and practice requesting them appropriately. We also plan to expand into small group collaborative projects where students use materials like playdough and kinetic sand together to complete shared tasks, reinforcing teamwork and problem-solving. At the same time, we'll continue using the tablet and ULS program to monitor growth and guide instruction, ensuring each student is making meaningful progress both academically and socially.","fullyFundedDate":1769177943993,"projectUrl":"project/from-sensory-to-success/9746128/","projectTitle":"From Sensory to Success!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Q","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-8_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9692475"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_58567","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":584,"numTeachers":36,"percentFrplEligible":91,"percentAsian":2,"percentBlack":9,"percentWhite":10,"percentIndigenous":1,"percentLatinx":72,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"16.2:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":62.1,"schoolId":58567,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Glenn F.
