This technology is continuously helping students develop essential communication skills in a low-pressure environment. Students have used the microphones to record themselves, hear their own voices played back, and receive immediate feedback on clarity, volume, and pacing. They practiced learning how to quickly plan a full sentence response before they even start to speak. By practicing with the actual equipment they use during assessments, students have built confidence in their skills. The listening component has provided opportunities to learn active listening strategies—identifying key information, responding thoughtfully, and engaging in structured conversations. These skills directly supported our recent state English proficiency testing, where students who practiced with these centers showed greater confidence and comfort speaking into microphones.\r\n\r\nWhat supports our students most is the real-world authenticity of the experience. Hearing themselves clearly and professionally is empowering by helping them get used to the unfamiliarity with listening to their voice and then begin refining their speech. I noticed that students who typically experience anxiety around public speaking went into testing with the familiarity of the activities as well as the confidence that they can formulate academic responses all on their own. By assessment time, they felt prepared and assured, knowing exactly what to expect.
